K–12 Offerings Overview

Apple Professional Development K–12 offerings are organized by location and level. Quick links Level 1: Leadership offerings assist education leaders in visioning, planning, and implementing a transformative learning environment Leadership for faculty and students that leverages Apple products and content. Foundations Integration Level 2: Foundations offerings focus on the features of Apple products and apps and developing those into skills that apply to learning Support and teaching. Foundations courses help faculty become confident and comfortable using Apple products and integrating them into their Apple Academies teaching strategies. and Programs Level 3: Integration offerings take foundational skills to the level of learning through the exploration of content design for Apple Learning Series engaging learners and through cross-curricular integration of Apple product features and content.

Level 4: Support (Seminar) offerings are development sessions for a cohort of educators and are optimally taken directly after completing one of the Foundations or Integration courses. Seminars extend and develop newfound knowledge by mentoring participants in a personal learning project.

Foundations and Integration courses may be taken in almost any order to build a broad base of skills and understanding. A strategic combination of courses with seminars can create a scaffolded learning experience that addresses and enhances individual professional development.

Apple Academies and Programs

One Apple Academy program is offered offsite, and two additional Apple Academies and Programs are offered onsite. They are open to both Quick links K–12 and higher education faculty and serve different skill levels and needs. Apple Creative Educator Academy Apple Creative Educator (ACE) Academy is a four-day experience designed to help educators learn Apple apps (such as Pages, Keynote, Numbers, GarageBand, iMovie, iPhoto, or Photos) from Apple education experts. The program focus is on gaining basic to intermediate-level skills in iOS or OS X, as well as in built-in apps in an education context. Significant time is spent on the application of the apps to learning and teaching.

No criteria is required for acceptance. The goal of the Academy is to prepare participants to take the Apple iWork Certification tests. The ACE Badge will be awarded at the conclusion of the Academy. An ACE Academy accommodates up to 25 participants. Contact [email protected] for more information.

Apple Foundations Trainer Academy Apple Foundations Trainer (AFT) Academy is designed to sustain basic Apple technology skills in education organizations that are one or more years past a large Apple implementation or that are in the process of purchasing a one-to-one program. The weeklong AFT Academy program is delivered at an Apple-hosted destination. Every session models best professional development practices—all in a curricular context.

An AFT Academy class is made up of individuals from public K–12 districts, private schools, schools of education, and higher education institutions across Canada. The focus of the program is on enhancing the readiness of individuals for their roles in leading professional learning for Apple OS X and related Apple creativity apps in their institutions. Applicants must hold positions that include responsibility for delivering preservice or in-service professional development within their organizations, and they must demonstrate the required level of competency with Apple apps (such as Pages, Keynote, Numbers, GarageBand, iMovie, and iPhoto) based on a skills assessment. Quick links Apple Leadership for Learning Academy K–12 The Leadership for Learning Academy is for education leadership teams who want to implement the Five Best Practices that consistently characterize Higher Education centres of academic innovation and excellence. This program addresses the “Why?” and “How?” of effective technology integration and is delivered in four nonconsecutive course days. Each course day offers inspirational and tactical information from real-world examples of successful learning initiatives. Completing this program results in a shared leadership action plan that’s aligned to an institution’s goals and leverages Apple tools to help create a transformative learning environment for faculty and students. A Leadership for Learning Academy accommodates up to 25 participants.

We’ve found that conversation is most effective when it’s based on common experience. The Leadership for Learning Academy is best experienced at your location with a group of education leaders with a common educational audience or institution.

All courses are hands-on and accommodate 25 participants.
