"Lamentación sobre Cristo muerto". Importante grupo escultórico en madera tallada con ligeros restos de policromía. Escuela española con influencia alemana. 16th Century.
La composición se centra en el cuerpo de Cristo muerto, sostenido por su madre, la Virgen, quien aparece arropada por San Juan Evangelista. Esta horizontalidad, dispone al resto de personajes en la composición. Encontramos seguramente a José de Arimatea y Nicodemo sosteniendo el lienzo para envolver el cuerpo de Cristo, y portando en su mano los clavos de la cruz, de la que ambos acaban de descenderlo. En el extremo izquierdo, arrodillada, María Magdalena y en el centro dos plañideras, una de ellas sujetando la corona de espinas. Cada personaje refleja con maestría y gran expresividad, su sufrimiento ante la muerte de Cristo. Size: 136 x 205 x 30 cm.

The “Palacio de las Euras” was built in 1894 - 1898, in french classical style It was commissioned by Mr. Josep Gallart Forgas, to the architecte August Font i Carreras. During the Civil War it was indented by the Government to serve as official residence of the Generalitat President, Lluis Companys.

He study with the artist Rogent Elies. One of his first jobs was the direction of the restoration and strengthening of the dome of the Basilica del Pilar de Zaragoza. Among his most important works in Barcelona: the finithion of the neo-Gothic façade of the Cathedral, the Palace of Fine Arts in Barcelona, wich was constructed for the Universal Exhibition, and the Bullring “Las Arenas”.

This work, couple with lot 127, shows us the best Cusachs. Painted in Cusach’s artistic splendor. In 1887 he participate in the Madrid Exibition, where one of his works "En el campo de maniobras" was acquired by Queen Maria Cristina, and in 1891, a year after paint our equestrian portraits, he won the Gold Medal at the Exhibition in Berlin with his work "Maniobras de división".
