The original texts include religious epics, Shakespeare’s plays, Bengali novels which were written pre- independence, and Hollywood films. This venture uses adaptation theory as well as postmodernist and postcolonial theories to examine how women and men are represented in the adaptations as well as how contemporary audience expectations help to create the identity of the characters in the films.

So many have folded during the past 20 years, but our mantra has Thursday, 21 Nov, 10.13 am, “The Times Of Bengal” been constant up gradation and modernization keeping in tandem with the latest technological changes for the best viewing comfort of our patrons. Priya and Piyali's films journey has been quite a momentous and we have been an integral part of these 100 years of Bengali cinema having been part of it for 60 years.Under the banner of Piyali Films, PEPL has also produced films, most of which have gone on to win major national and international awards. 'Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne', 'Aranyer Dinratri' and 'Pratidwandi' directed by Satyajit Ray, 'Chhuti' directed by Arundhati Devi, and 'Hatey Bajare' directed by Tapan Sinha, are just some of the unforgettable names. PEPL has received the President's Gold Award for Best Producer, for three consecutive years.Priya Cinema, its flagship single- screen theatre, was the first to screen the most popular Charlie Chaplin movie 'CITY LIGHTS' on the 22nd May 1958. For me the biggest impact of Priya on the Bengali film industry has been the hope, support it has provided for lesser known film directors, actors and has acted as a lifeline for them.

It is a critical-historical account of the transitional era, roughly from 1998 to 2018, and examines practices and decisions taken ‘on the ground’ by film sound recordists, editors, designers and mixers. My work explores the histories and genealogies of the transition by analysing the individual, as well as collective, aesthetic concerns of film workers migrating from the celluloid to the digital age. My inquiry aimed to explore linkages between the digital turn and shifts in production practices, notably sound recording, sound design and sound mixing. The study probes the various ways in which these shifts shaped the aesthetics, styles, genre conventions, and norms of image-sound relationships in Indian cinema in comparison with similar practices from Euro-American film industries.

Chatterji on Soumitra Chatterjee, who has been honoured with the National Award for Best Actor FOR 50 years, from Satyajit Ray to Tapan Sinha to Mrinal Sen to Gautam Ghosh and Aparna Sen, all major directors have utilised Soumitra Chatterjee’s enormous talent that creates unforgettable cinema. This includes the Padma Bhushan, a BBC documentary on his life and works called Gaach , meaning ‘tree’ and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for his contribution to theatre. He has directed and acted in more than 10 significant plays with Soumitra Chatterjee has acted in about 300 films some successful shows abroad. He has authored more than 10 books on poetry, beginning with Jalapropater Dharey Dandabo Bole ( To Stand by the Waterfall ) in 1975. Today, he takes the National Award for Best Actor for his performance in Suman Ghosh’s Padakkhep in his stride with the quiet calm that is this actor’s hallmark. "A serious interest in cinema started with the first Film Festival held in Calcutta after my parents shifted to Calcutta from Howrah. For the first time, I watched Bicycle Thieves , Miracle in Milan , Fall of Berlin , with friends equally interested in cinema. These films changed my entire thinking about cinema. We saw Renoir’s River , shot completely in India.

Q&A: 'I have no right to hurt my viewers' - Editorial - Opinion - The Times of India Page 1 of 1 Printed from Q&A: 'I have no right to hurt my viewers' 30 Jun 2008, 0037 hrs IST When Soumitra Chatterjee was shooting for Dekha and Abar Aranye, young Suman Ghosh would constantly watch him. Can natural behaviour give you a range of characters like Sandeep (Ghare Baire) and Ganga Charan (Ashani Sanket)? Both have negative tones.
