■ Premier Wen Jiabao presided over three meetings on Sept 21st and 22nd, 2009 which set it an important economic strategy to develop emerging industries. ■ The meetings concluded with specific goals to make the shift from a resource-oriented economy to a green economy that relies on science and technology progress, quality workforce and innovative management. ■ By 2020, China’s output in the entire biology industry will reach RMB 2.5-3 trillion. ■ The new energy sector has enormous potential. The annual output of energy generated from renewable energy resources equals that from 7.3 billion tons of standard coal and there is huge room for improvement. China tops the world in the coverage of solar energy collectors and ranks second in terms of wind power installed capacity, reaching 20 million kilowatts in 2009. ■ China’s investment on environment protection in the 12th five-year plan will be around RMB3.1 trillion.
