SECTION 5 - Assistive Technology Complexity Levels
Do not need to provide the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) with Assistive Technology Assessor assessments, reports and/or quotes before buying Basic (Level 1) or Standard (Level 2) Assistive Technology. Basic (Level 1) Assistive Technology These are considered low-cost products and services you can purchase with your Assistive Technology funding that are readily identified, locally sourced and integrated into your life for effective, low-risk use e.g. mainstream products to be used for familiar activities in familiar environments. You do not need to provide an NDIA with a quote for these items – you can simply just purchase them using your NDIS plan.

There may be lower cost alternatives (may require training in how to use) • requires an electronic portable hand-held magnifier as like for like replacement NOTE: Electronic portable hand-held magnifiers may not be the right solution for all low vision needs, and you should seek professional advice before buying one. Prosthetics and orthotics Everyday use products with specific features that address the participant’s functional limitations due to their disability, these can include items such as: • replacement stockings for a year • replacement socks for a year • replacement foot covers • replacement knee sleeves for a year • replacement straps/buckles/Velcro • other low-cost consumables (e.g. lubricant) that may be required to extend the working life of the AT • replacement silicone liner

Specialised (Level 3) Assistive Technology The AT may be similar to that supplied for Level 2, but there is greater complexity in participant need, AND/OR requires customisation, interconnection and/or integration with other AT or the person’s home/work/ place of study, AND/OR risk of injury if incorrectly set-up/issued is high or not obvious to operator.
Considered for Participants where there is greater risk of falls, entrapment, asphyxiation, and/or impalement for more active participants due to aspects of their impairment(s)/situation, for example: • altered muscle tone; • altered visual field; • impaired cognition; • complexity of environment of use; • demand on personal supports or manual handling considerations. Advisor Characteristics Experienced professional support needed to identify, source and integrate components of assistive solutions into the participant’s life for effective use. Assessment at this level and above will consider the extent of activity modification or learning required, or extent of environmental modifications, human support and/or specialist training required

Complex (Level 4) Assistive Technology The AT may: • be custom made or ‘off the shelf’ but configured uniquely for the person • require interconnection or integration with other AT or the persons home/work/ place of study • carry significant risk (hospitalisation or death)
AT devices/systems designed to address multiple complex needs of a participant and those who are at a high risk of pressure ulcers, entrapment, or asphyxiation. Particularly complex support needs due to: • severe postural deformity • very complex communication • severely altered muscle tone • severely impaired cognition • challenging environment of use • high positive behaviour support needs
Hearing: paediatric participants and adults with complex needs including poor speech discrimination, profound loss, auditory neuropathy. Advisor characteristics Specialist and/or ongoing support (including specialised training) needed to identify, source and integrate components of assistive solutions into the participant’s life for effective use.

SECTION 7 - Product In-Home Evaluation & Trial
Aidacare will make certain products/equipment available for in-home evaluation & short-term trial to assess suitability for the environment and Participant. Where possible, a single assessment period will be arranged for viewing of product selection, as multiple assessment visits may not be funded by NDIS. Bathroom, hygiene and some personal care products/equipment are available for dry trials only. Technical based equipment (power wheelchairs and custom manual wheelchairs), splints, personal hygiene, continence and respiratory equipment are not available for loan. Please contact your Healthcare Professional or Aidacare AT Consultant to arrange product viewing and trials. Full Terms & Conditions are also available from the Aidacare Consultant.

SECTION 9 - Home Modifications
Aidacare is a highly experienced provider of home modification services, assisting people to continue to live safely and independently in their own home. These modifications may include introducing assistive technology products into the home environment or making structural changes to the home.
Modifications are usually based on a thorough assessment by an Occupational Therapist and can range from something as simple as installing grab-rails, hand-rails, lever taps and step-wedges, to more complex home modifications such as installing fixed wheelchair ramps and widening doorways.
At Aidacare, we are able to arrange expert installation of everything you may need to ensure that the home is safe, secure and mobility friendly. Our installers work closely with healthcare professionals and NDIS participant to achieve outstanding results.
