DEAR MEMBERS: FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS BAR ASSOCIATION © copyright 2003 If you have not had a chance to attend an FCBA event recently, you are missing out! The FCBA held a highly successful 1020 19th Street,N.W. enforcement seminar on April 28th. Bob Pettit, Kathy Brown Suite 325 Washington,D.C.20036-6101 and Jordan Goldstein, Enforcement Committee Co-chairs, Phone: (202) 293-4000 planned a day-long conference covering all aspects of : (202) 293-4317 enforcement practice, including views from FCC officials and E-mail: [email protected] private sector in-house compliance officers. David Solomon, Website: http://www.fcba.org Chief of the Enforcement Bureau, and several of his key staff OFFICERS members, gave a great deal of their time and imparted valuable Peter D.Shields information to the program’s participants. In addition, Commissioner Abernathy Wiley,Rein & Fielding LLP delivered a luncheon address on enforcement policies generally and offered her views President of enforcement issues. I want to thank David Solomon, Commissioner Abernathy,Matt Alexandra M.Wilson Brill and Jason Scism of Commissioner Abernathy’s office, and all of the participants— Cox Enterprises,Inc. both FCC and private sector—for taking time from their busy schedules to help the President-Elect FCBA deliver a top quality program. Congratulations to Bob, Kathy and Jordan on this Mark Van Bergh great success. I believe there will be a strong demand for follow-up programs on this Arter & Hadden,LLP topic, so stay tuned next year for more news on the enforcement front. Finally, thank Secretary you to the FCBA’s Stan Zenor and Heidi Kurtz for their important role in this seminar. Stuart A.Shorenstein Wolf Block Schorr & Solis-Cohen,LLP Assistant Secretary April began with another successful and important event—the Mentoring Reception Michele C.Farquhar held on April 3rd at Shook Hardy & Bacon. The Diversity Committee Co-chairs, Edgar Hogan & Hartson,LLP Class, Monica Desai and Harry Wingo, arranged the reception, which featured former Treasurer FCC Commissioner Henry Rivera, Executive Committee Member and Senior Vice Diane J.Cornell President of BET,Byron Marchant, and former FCC Chairman Dick Wiley. The featured Cellular Telecommunications guests spoke about mentoring generally, and the FCBA’s mentoring program. A & Association (CTIA) number of junior lawyers and law students attended the event and took advantage of Assistant Treasurer this opportunity to meet for the first time with their own FCBA mentors. I believe this EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE program is one of the more important endeavors our Association undertakes and want James S.Blitz to thank all involved in ensuring that we continue to provide mentoring opportunities Joseph M.Di Scipio for young professionals and students. The FCBA has demonstrated a true commitment Rebecca L.Dorch to this area, and I was pleased to see another successful mentoring program launched Selina Y.Khan Byron F.Marchant this year. If you have an interest in either having a mentor or serving as one, you can Christopher D.Moore contact Heidi Kurtz and she will help arrange a pairing.
