JAMIE MCMURRAY NASCAR Analyst JAMIE MCMURRAY NASCAR Analyst After a stellar NASCAR career that spanned 16 fulltime NASCAR CUP SERIES seasons, driver Jamie McMurray stepped out of the race car at the conclusion of the 2018 season and joined FOX Sports in 2019 as a NASCAR analyst for NASCAR RACE HUB, the sport’s most-watched daily show, and NASCAR RACEDAY, among other duties. McMurray, who spent the majority of his racing career in the No. 1 Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet, jumped from the race car to FOX NASCAR’s virtual studio in Charlotte, N.C., after a couple of guest analyst appearances on NASCAR RACE HUB in October and November 2018. Additionally, he had offered analysis in the FOX Sports broadcast booth for NASCAR XFINITY SERIES races at Pocono Raceway (June 2018) and Las Vegas Motor Speedway (March 2017). In the race car, McMurray exploded onto the NASCAR scene in 2002, scoring a win in his second- career Cup Series start, the quickest Cup Series win ever, while substituting for the injured Sterling Marlin at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The former world karting champion worked his way up through the NASCAR GANDER RV & OUTDOORS TRUCK SERIES and NASCAR XFINITY SERIES ranks before signing with Chip Ganassi Racing, where he ran his first full Cup season in 2003, winning the Rookie of the Year Award. After a stint at Roush Fenway Racing from 2006 to 2009, McMurray returned to Ganassi and posted a monster 2010 campaign, becoming one of only three drivers to win both the DAYTONA 500 and the BRICKYARD 400 in the same year. During his second act at Chip Ganassi Racing, McMurray also scored a win in the 2014 NASCAR All-Star Race and won the 2015 Rolex 24 at Daytona with CGR teammates Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan and Kyle Larson. With the feat, McMurray etched his name in the record books as one of only four drivers to find Victory Lane for the Daytona 500 and the Rolex 24, joining racing legends A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti and FOX NASCAR analyst Jeff Gordon as the only drivers to have won both races. McMurray also made the NASCAR CUP SERIES playoffs in three consecutive years, from 2015 to 2017. During his Cup Series career, McMurray amassed seven wins, 11 pole positions, 63 top- five and 168 top-10 finishes, in addition to eight NASCAR XFINITY SERIES wins and a NASCAR GANDER RV & OUTDOORS TRUCK SERIES win. In his personal time, McMurray focuses on fitness and nutrition and competes in grueling running and cycling endurance events. He completed his first marathon in December 2017, finishing with a time of 3:25:14, and he improved upon that time the following year with a showing of 3:14:06. His charity, the Jamie McMurray Foundation, has donated more than $225,000 to Autism Speaks and other children’s charities. Born in Joplin, Mo., McMurray resides in Mooresville, N.C., with his wife, Christy, and their children, Carter and Hazel. McMurray, driving the Cessna Patriotic Chevrolet SS, overcame an early tire issue to narrowly miss the top-10 with an 11th-place finish in the Toyota/SaveMart 350. McMurray entered the weekend as the two-time defending pole winner for the race and hoped to be just the second driver to pull-off the hat-trick of three consecutive poles at Sonoma Raceway (Ricky Rudd won three in a row 1990-1992). Unfortunately McMurray was unable to transfer into the second round of qualifying on Saturday afternoon and settled for an 18th-place qualifying result. McMurray was able to pick-up positons in the early running before having to pit off sequence on lap 10 for a tire issue. The minor setback put the No. 1 Cessna Patriotic Chevy on a different pit strategy than several of the leaders, but the No. 1 team was able to take advantage of some cautions and close back up on the field. On the race’s final caution, crew chief Matt McCall, gambled on track positon and McMurray restarted second with just seven laps to go.
