4 CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME SEASON 2012 / 2013 CLYDEBANK FC OFFICIAL MATCH PROGRAMME SEASON 2012 / 2013 33 ‘We have a relatively young squad and we have to ensure our young guys don’t lose confidence in their own ability’

We have now lost three games on the trot. It is a situation that is obviously hard to take for everyone connected to the club on the back of a good run which raised many people’s expectations but you have to put things into perspective and in my honest opinion we really only deserved to lose the Talbot game. Our cup exit at Glenafton and our last home league game against Arthurlie both ended in disappointing fashion for us and the subsequent disappointment can make those games and performances feel worse than they actually were. I thought our lads deserved something from both games and especially last week for all the effort they put in. But football can be a cruel game. Admittedly, we have played better but I’m prepared to cut our guys some slack for last week’s result as from the moment Arthurlie were reduced to ten men, they more or less went into spoiling mode which made it difficult for our guys to achieve any fluency in their play. I think anyone who has known me during my time as manager could vouch that I generally try to give match officials the benefit of doubt but recently there seems to be hardly a game goes by where we are not talking about controversial incidents and decisions.

For me, I’d rather the ref hadn’t reduced them to ten because he seemed to adjust his game to compensate for sending their guy off. The galling thing about last weeks’ referee was his failure to respect his assistant referees view during one of the games major turning points. Why have assistant referees? We are fortunate to have video evidence to review these inci- dents but in this case I think it has only proved what the majority of people in the ground already knew, the ref was wrong and his assistant was correct. Arthurlie should have been reduced to nine men and we should have had a penalty which would have put an entirely different complexion on the remainder of the game. To rub salt into our wounds, the guilty Ar- thurlie player popped up in injury time to head their winner. Earlier this season at Shotts we had an assistant referee give a controversial penalty against us and despite asking both the assistant and the referee during and after the games as well as watching the video highlights umpteen times, to this day I still don’t know why he we were penalised. Having said that we have to try to continue to focus on things that we can influence and we will look to improve certain aspects of our perfor- mance. We have a relatively young squad and we have to ensure our young guys don’t lose confidence in their own ability. One pleasing aspect for me from last week’s game was the introduction and performance of Scott Walker. Scott has been working hard recently at training and I thought he deserved a chance and in my eyes he certainly didn’t let us down.

Today we welcome Ayrshire opponents Cumnock to Holm Park. Significant changes have been made to their squad from last season and according to some people they are consequently an improved outfit therefore we will need a good perfor- mance from our lads If we are to get back on track in. Can I ask you once again to give the players as much vocal backing as possible in order to help them achieve three points from this fixture?

Onwards & upwards.

Billy McGhie.

HONORARY TRUST MEMBER-STEVEN CALDWELL A couple of months ago it was mentioned on the Bankies Forum that Steven Caldwell had been asking how the Bankies were doing through trust member David Flanagan. At the same time, we at the trust were asked if Steven was an Honorary Member of the trust. The background to Steven’s interest in Clydebank FC, for those who don’t know, is through trust member and Sunderland supporter David Flanagan. Around six years ago when Steven played for Sunderland, he donated a signed Scotland top to Clydebank FC, which we auctioned at a Sportsman’s Dinner. At that time the trust board agreed to offer Steven an Honorary Membership, but didn’t manage to get a certificate to him. So when we were asked about it again recently we decided to finish what we started six years ago and Steven has now accepted his Honorary Membership and received his certificate.

Martin McInnes 2 1 7 2 11 1 188 4 192 6 The Nock had a disappointing season last term and finished just above Pollok to avoid the play-offs. This season they were Paul Allum 4 1 7 1 1 1 12 1 2 136 22 158 14 hoping for a change in their fortunes and to be nearer that top than the foot of the table, however thus far they have spent the Ross Campbell 3 3 1 1 7 1 116 5 121 8 season mainly in the lower half of the table. Cumnock were promoted at the end of that season and Clyde- Michael Morris 2 1 2 1 2 1 3 bank faced the agony of losing the play-off so rivalry was suspended until last season when the sides met again at Townhead Scott Walker 1 1 1 1 1 1 2 Park and again shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw when Graeme Smith scored Clydebank’s goal. The Nock again won the Holm Trialist AR 1 1 1 1 Park encounter, this time by a 5-2 scoreline with Clydebank’s goals coming from Kieran Burns and Adam Strachan. The sides Allan MacPherson 1 1 1 1 also met in a pre-season fixture in July 2010 where Clydebank did manage to get one over on their opponents in a 2-1 win at Craig McPherson Townhead Park when Ross McPherson and Stevie Dymock both found the net. When Cumnock have opened the scoring Bankies have on each occasion got back on level terms but have failed to take the game on from there. This afternoon may settle that statistical dispute.
