Youth are our hope for the future. With a vision of nurturing future leaders to share a passion for positive social change, Toronto ALPHA (Association for Learning and Preserving History of WWII in Asia) is holding its 2nd annual HumaniTEAM summer program to inspire high school students to have a critical understanding of how history, culture, politics and social change in- terplay. Adopting a critical-thinking approach, the program will focus on understand- ing Asian history, making connections to other histories, current events, identity building, and leadership training through group activities, guest speakers, film, games, drama and art. Youth participants will learn how to step outside of their comfort zone and build their capability to make a posi- tive impact in society. After participating last summer, Kathy reflected that “the information was inspiring and eye-opening. I know much more about what is happening around the world, and I feel like I understand the importance of remember- ing the past now.” Guest speakers will include Amnesty International, Cana- dian Red Cross, Harmony Movement, and renowned community leaders who will share global views and visions with the young participants. The program will provide participants with a platform for cross-cultural in- teraction. Youth will become friends with like-minded peers, be mentored by passionate young professionals, and learn about mutual understanding and team-building in a diverse society. Together they will learn about the dynam- ics of history, politics and society, and build ‘a team for humanity’ to make a positive impact in the future.

They are a defining moment in our journey. A time to celebrate a life. And whether we walked our years in wingtips or sandals is not important. What matters is that you now know a funeral home that recognizes the difference. Call to find out how a personalized service can reflect an individual and honor a life.
