The Northern Lights equestrian vaulting team is proud to be

Our team members range in age from 12 to 34 and have over 85 years of combined vaulting experi- ence. We are so proud to be representing Canada at the 2014 World Equestrian Games!

Todd Griffiths - Todd is a veterinarian in Cardston, AB where he lives with his wife and 3 young daughters. He is the head coach of our team and also competes with Brooke in Pas de Deux. Todd has been actively involved in numerous sports including and track as well as the performing arts, both acting and singing. Todd is a dual citizen of Canada and the US. As an FEI competitor he vaulted for the US up through WEG 2010, but having made Canada his permanent home, he changed his nationality of representation to Canada in 2014 in preparation for the WEG in Normandy.

Jeanine van der Sluijs - Jeanine, 27, started vaulting at the age of 6 in the Netherlands. In 2001 she moved to Canada with her family, where they started a dairy farm near Olds, AB. At the same time, they started Meadow Creek Vaulting Club, with Jeanine as the head coach. Jeanine has been competing internationally since 2005 including the 2010 Alltech World Equestrian Games in Lexington, KY. Jeanine is currently competing internationally in all 3 events within vaulting: Individu- al, Pas De Deux with her sister Angelique, and the Northern Lights Squad.

Angelique van der Sluijs - After graduating from Olds College in 2009 where Angelique, 25, studied Equine Science she decided to put more focus on vaulting. After receiving her Canadian citizenship in late 2010, she began representing Cana- da at international events. Angelique was groom for 3 Canadian and South African horses at the 2010 Alltech World Equestrian Games, and was the Canadian Chef D'Equipe at the 2012 World Vaulting Championships in Le Mans, France. Besides her own vaulting, Angelique enjoys training, riding and lungeing horses for the Meadow Creek Vaulting Club.

Haigen Pavan - Haigen is 21 years old and has been vaulting since 2007 in Alberta and BC. He spent 18 months in BC where he vaulted for their team as well as individually before moving back to Alberta. Haigen competed with, and helped to coach the Secrets team to wins at CVI Pacific Cup and CVI Canada Cup earlier this spring and is now excited to be a part of the Northern Lights Squad. He also enjoys diving, biking, wake boarding, snowboarding and hiking.

Shianne Hofer - Shianne was involved in gymnastics until the age of 8, and then began vaulting at MCVC. She has been vaulting for 11 years, the last 4 internationally. Her involvement in this sport has taken her as far as Sydney, Australia and Gilroy, CA. She will be furthering her passion for horses in the fall at Olds College where she is enrolled in the Equine Busi- ness Science program. She is very excited to compete at the World Equestrian Games with the team.

Brooke Boyd - Brooke was born in 1996 and resides in Olds, AB. She has been passionate about horses from a young age. Pursuing gymnastics kept her busy until the age of 12. She then began vaulting at the Meadow Creek Vaulting Club with Jeanine and Angelique. Her love of horses and gymnastics made her a sure fit for this amazing sport. Brooke has been competing individually for 4 years, as well as team and Pas de Deux with Todd this year - they recently competed in Austria.

Dallyn Shields - At 12 years old, Dallyn is the youngest member of the team. She is very excited to be one of the flyers repre- senting Canada at the World Equestrian Games. She made her international debut this year with the team as well as com- peting individually in Vault into Spring - Washington, CVI Pacific Cup - California and at CVI Canada Cup in Chilliwack, BC. Dallyn lives on a farm in Didsbury, AB and enjoys riding her horses and vaulting, of course! “And soft they rolled like a tide upshoaled with a ceaseless ebb and flow.” Robert Service

Our team has been also been supported and helped along the way by a few more amaz- ing people and, of course, some wonderful Canadian horses who carried our team through training and qualifying competitions in North America!

Hannah Marland - Hannah vaulted with the Northern Lights Squad all winter, but unfortunately sustained a serious knee injury during the first qualifying competition in Lynden, WA. She has not been able to continue vaulting but has been a wonderful support to the team and will be traveling to France as the team trainer and massage therapist. Hannah com- peted at WEG in both 2006 and 2010 as an individual vaulter; she has several years of international experience and success.

Melanie O’Neill - Melanie is the lunger for the team and the owner of Hugo and Bubba Jazz, the horses the team has been vaulting on for training and competition. The Northern Lights team has been fortunate to have such a wonderful lunger and horses who carried them safely through many hours of training and all of the qualifying competitions. Melanie has also spent several years lunging for her club, Razzle Dazzle, located west of Olds, AB.

Becky Marland - Becky is the Canadian Chef D'Equipe for the 2014 WEG. She has many years of coaching and lunging expe- rience and has been a huge support for the team. Earlier this season, the team also trained on her horses, Ruben and Phoe- nix. Becky was a lunger for her daughter, Hannah, at the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Kentucky.
