Inizia poi al km 13 il tentativo di tre atleti: Kolobnev, Bisolti e Zhupa. Blanda stavolta la reazione del gruppo: al km 16 il terzetto di battistrada ha 1’33” di vantaggio. Km 18: 2’26”; km 22: 3’52”. Traguardo Volante (km 25,2 – Cerreto Sannita) I passaggi: Kolobnev, Zhupa e Bisolti; a 4’08” Demare, Colbrelli e il gruppo. Mario Meola, the mayor of the city, drops the flag. Five riders, Ovechkin, Niemiec, Berlato, Coledan and Martinez, race clear right after the start. At km 8 of racing, they are 13” up the road. The peloton reacts and the break is caught up at km 10. At km 13, Kolobnev, Bisolti and Zhupa break away. The bunch does not react this time: at km 16, the leading trio is 1’33” up the road. At km 18, the gap is 2’26”; at km 22: 3’52”. Intermediate sprint (km 25.2 – Cerreto Sannita) Kolobnev claims the intermediate sprint ahead of Zhupa and Bisolti, and 4’08” ahead of Demare, Colbrelli and the bunch. At km 30, the break is 5’57” up the road; at km 34: 6’06”. Giant-Alpecin riders are leading the chase. Average speed after three hours of racing: 36.500 km/h. The road starts to climb towards Bocca della Selva. At km 42, the gap is 6’52”; at km 45: 6’39”; at km 49: 5’52”; at km 51: 5’53”. KOM (km 54.1 – Bocca della Selva – m 1,393 – 2nd category) Bisolti clears the climb ahead of Kolobnev and Zhupa, and 4’11” ahead of Cunego, Pirazzi, Agnoli and the peloton (which is very strung out). Average speed after two hours: 31.400 km/h. Movistar riders are leading the peloton. It starts to rain again on the route. The breakaways lose ground along the descent: at km 66, the gap is 1’50”. Zhupa holds on at the front of the race; the peloton catches up with Kolobnev. At the end of the descent (at km 74), Zhupa is 22” ahead of Bisolti and 54” ahead of the first chasing group (approx. 80 riders). Bisolti catches up with Zhupa (at km 76); many riders catch up with the first chasing group. At the mark indicating mid-stage, the peloton is 59” down the road. At km 80, Bisolti and Zhupa are 1’40” up the road; at km 83: 2’35”. Wellens, Ligthart and Didier counter-attack out of the peloton. At km 92, Wellens’s trio is 1’01” up the road; the peloton lags 4’58” behind. At km 94, Wellens and his fellow-chasers catch up with Zhupa and Bisolti. Average speed after three hours: 33.160 km/h. At km 101, the peloton is 5’14” down the road; at km 105: 6’; at the mark indicating 50 km to the finish: 6’29”; with 40 km left to go: 9’04”. Orica-GreenEdge riders are leading the peloton. With 35 km remaining to the finish, the gap is 8’48”. Bongiorno crashes in the midst of the bunch; he is medicated on the spot and regains his place in the peloton. With 30 km to go, the gap is 7’36”; -25 km: 6’49”. Intermediate sprint (km 138.1 – Castel di Sangro) Ligthart claims the intermediate sprint ahead of Zhupa, Wellens, Bisolti and Didier; the peloton is 6’22” down the road. Average speed after four hours: 34.820 km/h. Ligthart is dropped shortly after the beginning of the final climb. Didier takes a pull, Wellens counter-attacks with 15 km remaining to the finish. The peloton – led by Astana riders – lags 4’49” behind. Fuglsang attacks, followed by Siutsou (while Lopez Garcia fails to catch up with them). With 10 km remaining to the finish, Fuglsang and Siutsou are 4’13” down the road, the maglia rosa group is 4’50” adrift. With 8 km remaining to the finish, Bisolti and Didier are 2’04” down the road, Zhupa is at 2’24” down; Fuglsang and Siutsou are lagging 3’56” behind; the maglia rosa group (led by Movistar riders) is 4’40” adrift. With 5 km remaining to the finish, Bisolti is 2’37” down the road; 2’42” delay for Zhupa; 2’55” for Didier; 3’ for Fuglsang and Siutsou. The maglia rosa group is 3’30” down the road. Nibali attacks out of the peloton with 4 km remaining to the finish. Dumoulin counter-attacks, catching up with Nibali and leaving him behind. Pozzovivo and Zakarin, together with the pink jersey, catch up with Fuglsang and Siutsou. Wellens holds on, and nails a wonderful solo win. FINISH (Roccaraso, Aremogna – km 157; KOM – m 1,572 – 2nd category) Wellens claims the stage, 1’19” ahead of Fuglsang and Zakarin; 1’22” ahead of Dumoulin; 1’24” ahead of Siutsou and Pozzovivo; 1’29” ahead of Chaves; 1’33” ahead of Uran and Majka; 1’36” ahead of Valverde. Landa and Nibali lag 1’43” behind.     1 Topsport Vlaanderen – Mercator Nieuws 2012 Kenny De Ketele knap 4de in het omnium 15 januari 2012 - UCI Track Cycling World Cup #3 - China - Peking Er stonden geen zesdaagses op het programma van Kenny De Ketele en Tim Mertens begin januari. Onze pistiers kwamen in actie op de wereldbeker baanwielrennen in Peking. Kenny De Ketele is er knap vierde geworden in het omnium. Al meteen na dag 1 stond hij op die 4de plaats. Daarmee komt ook een ticket voor de Olympische Spelen in deze discipline heel wat dichterbij. De Australiër Glenn O´Shea won voor de Fransman Bryan Coquard en de Duitser Nikias Arndt. In de ploegenachtervolging eindigden de Belgen - met naast Kenny en Tim nog Ingmar De Poortere en Steve Schets - op de 10de plaats. Een mindere prestatie, gelukkig met weinig gevolgen voor wat betreft onze kansen op een Olympische kwalificatie. In de ploegkoers tenslotte werden Kenny en Tim tweede na de Tsjechen Martin Blaha en Vojtech Hacecky. Trainingsstage en workshops zitten er op 22 januari 2012 - teamnieuws Onze renners hebben de voorbije 2 weken een druk programma afgewerkt. Na een mediatraining vertrokken ze op 10 januari naar het Spaanse Calpe voor de jaarlijkse trainingsstage. Net als vorig jaar verbleven ze er in Hotel Diamante Beach en gisteren, 11 dagen later, zijn ze teruggekeerd. De mediatraining van 9 januari werd gegeven door Steven Piessens en Frank Van Oss. Heel wat aandachtspunten werden besproken en begeleid door oefeningen. In Calpe werd er dan weer stevig gefietst onder begeleiding van de nieuwe trainer Trainer Erwin Borgonjon. Sommige dagen stonden er meer dan 200 kilometers op de teller, met daarbij 3600 hoogtemeters.
