BONARDA

COLONIA LAS LIEBRES BONARDA BRUT NATURE 2013

TASTING NOTES This pale pink sparkling is defined by the bright, freshly picked red fruits on the nose. Delicate and round on the palate, the wine is crisp and displays cherry and cranberry and finishes with a refreshing minerality. Best served between 46-50º F. The lack of spring rains and the absence of extensive frosts allowed a very good blooming of the vines, while hail damages – a constant threat for high altitude – were negligible. The growing season has been uneven, starting with high temperatures and becoming cooler later on. The heat came back before the beginning of the harvest, but then a cold wave hit Mendoza at the middle of March, resulting in a slow maturation. Therefore grapes were showing admirable level of acidity, lower alcohol content and fine tannins. 100% manual harvested Bonarda grapes. The grapes were pressed immedi- ately upon arrival at the Bodega giving a pale pink color. The wine is vinified with native yeast in 300hl stainless steel tanks with temperature control at 13-15 Celsius with no acid corrections. The second fermentation took place in the bottle, and aged on lees for 6 months. This was done to maintain the fruit and freshness, and build complexity without yeasty notes. This sparkling does not have any liqueur d’expédition (dosage) to keep its purity and origin. & SOIL STRUCTURE 100% Bonarda Argentina grapes come from alluvial-calcareous soils of El Peral (Uco Val- ley). This area sits high, which contributes to cooler nights, resulting in acid develop- ment and retention. 90% of the soils are limestone gravels with sandy loam struc- ture with very low water retention. The low fertility soils help control the natural vigor of the Bonarda vine, and deep soils with good drainage facilitate root development.
