Term 1 Newsletter 1 2021 20 Dip Road, Kamo, Whangarei, New Zealand. Email: [email protected] PH: (09) 435 0733 FX: (09) 435 3671 Friday 12th February – Term One, Newsletter 1, 2021 NEWSLETTERS ARE DISTRIBUTED FORTNIGHTLY ON EVEN WEEKS. Tena ra koutou ki nga hau e wha – Greetings to everybody. Welcome back to Hurupaki School 2021! I’d like to extend a very warm welcome back to all of our returning families and to the new families that have joined us this year! The children appear to have settled back into learning and school life extremely well, and are excited about the year ahead. Our teachers have been very busy organising fabulous learning activities for this term, including school camps and sporting events. There is a focus on the arts this year with the school Art Auction scheduled to take place early Term 2 and a school production planned for early Term 4. Our school theme this year is ‘Shine Bright’. Our learners will be encouraged to be the very best they can be, to grow and contribute to their full potential with the support of everyone in our learning community. Some quotes to support this theme are: “As we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same” (Nelson Mandela), “You can’t grow in someone else’s shadow. Stand in the light and cast your own”, “Never dull your shine for someone else” (Tyra Banks), “Don’t let someone dim your light simply because it is shining in their eyes”, “Try not to get lost comparing yourself to others. Discover your gifts and let them shine!” (Jenny Finch). Online bookings are available for the “meet the teacher” meetings coming up in Week 3 on Wednesday 17th and Thursday 18th February. We notice many parents have already made bookings, thank you for this. These meetings provide you with an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and tell them about your child, your hopes for them this year, and also how their learning can be best supported throughout the rest of the year. School will be closed from 12:15pm on Wednesday 17 February. There are more details about this on the next page. Property Update: Some of our classrooms received upgrades to the technology/wet areas during the holiday break, and they look stunning! I have been advised that the ministry plans to replace Pods 5 and 7 will not be happening any time soon due to other schools being more in need of classroom replacements. However, there are plans to upgrade Pod 7 into a modern flexible learning environment sometime this year. We are really excited about this and can’t wait for it all to be finished! The best time for children to be arriving at school is between 8:15am and 8:30am in the mornings. Please do not drop them off at school before 8:00am. If children arrive before 8:10am they must wait in front of Pod 1 until a bell releases them to go to their classrooms. We are looking forward to an exciting year of learning in 2021. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend. He is hoping to obtain some road surface material left over from the Brynderwyn hills upgrade to complete the job. He had earlier that morning used the grader to level the car park alongside the Ruakaka Recreation Centre.
