Bowne Collection The Audrey Bowne collection consists of 8 boxes of large 3” binders, about three per box. The binders are numbered consecutively and seem to consist primarily of computer print outs of pedigree charts, many generated from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, and RootsWeb. Others are printed in the NEHGS format by generations. Some pages have additional notes provided by the researcher. Notebooks are numbered by the researcher from the earliest, 1487 to the latest. Sections begin with pedigree charts, followed by descendant charts. Pages have been inserted singly into protective binders so the collection is orderly and easily navigated, but it is difficult to find specific Bowne individuals unless one knows his/her date of birth, Audrey Bown’s goal may have been to capture and identify all the Bowne’s worldwide, 1400s to present. BOWNES are here indexed by the name of the Bowne individual, followed by his date of birth, spouse, if given, and whether the records are Pedigree Charts, Family Group Sheets, or print outs of Descendants and the number of pages if more than one. Sometimes both a short version and the complete NEHGS format is presented. They are arranged in approximate chronological order by order of birth with the range of ages listed at the top of each page. Some pages with only partial birth/death date data were not indexed. For the researcher seeking specific names, it may be worth browsing the notebooks by the approximate birth date.

Bowne Collection Notebook 1

Descendants of William Bowne, Sr., born 1487, son, Henry d 8 Oct 1543, Wirksworth, Matlock, Darby, ENG, His son William b 1535, Laxton, Yorkshire, d 1560, m Margaret NEWTON. This line seems to be the focus of the research, and the families included all were born in Derby, Devon or Yorkshire England. Notebooks are loosely organized by chronological order.

Bowne Notebook 2, 1600s

The second notebooks begins with the family of William Bowne, born 1600 in York, England, with his children, John, 1630, England, James, 1636, Salem, Capt Andrew, 1638, Salem; and Mary, 1648, Monmouth NJ, following those lines. These printouts are from Rootsweb. They follow a number of surnames in the U.S. primarily NJ and NY, including the following: MOTT, METEER, SALTER, BORDEN, WETHERILL, HEYER , HOLMES, HORNER, HOWELL, CONOVER, EGGLESTON, COOK,COLES, PEARCE, COX, FROST, TITUS, THORNE, FIELD, SHOTWELL,FITZRANDOLPH, TILTON, PEARSHALL, and other prominent early New Jersey names. Dates are from the 1600s through the 1700s. The second half of the notebook contains pedigree charts for the included families, copyrighted 1987 by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Also included is a large descendant chart for Mary Becket, 1673-1707 who married the Rev. Samuel Bowne and one for Samuel Bowne himself, as well as for Gershom Mott, developed by ClipMate.
