Start: Ireland Street, Portages: 3 For more Bingley, BD16 2QE Time: 1-2 hours information Finish: Bingley 3 Distance: 3.8 Miles scan the QR Rise Locks, Bingley, OS Map: Explorer 288 Bradford code or visit BD16 2RD and Huddersfield https://bit.ly/bin gley-ring 1. A good launching point is approx. 20ft upstream from the metal gantry. Immediately encounter Bingley Weir. If there is enough water you can shoot this to the far right. If not, then carry over. A stopper with a long tow back develops at the weir base in high water. Always check the weir before you get on. 2. Once past the weir the river narrows and becomes more picturesque. Beware of low hanging trees. 3. The best course is down the centre of the river. At Myrtle Park be aware of the height of the metal bridge if the river level is high. Find out more information at: gopaddling.info PADDLING TRAIL Bingley Ring: River Aire & Leeds Liverpool Canal 4. At 0.7 miles, Harden Beck joins from the right. There is an island in the centre of the river which should be passed on the right hand side. Look out for rocks here at low water. 5. 1.3 miles into your journey you will reach Cottingley Bridge. -

Esholt, Guiseley, Hawksworth Circular. (Bluebell Woods and Golf Courses)
LOCKDOWN WALK ROUTE NUMBER 5: May 2020. ESHOLT, GUISELEY, HAWKSWORTH CIRCULAR. (BLUEBELL WOODS AND GOLF COURSES) A circular walk of 7½ miles. The walk description starts and ends at the Baildon Railway Station, but for those of you who are familiar with Baildon, there are opportunities for you to link into or out of the route at several other places – or to adapt it to your own interests. As this route has been written up during lockdown, we have tried to avoid narrow ginnels and footpaths. There is one short section of constrained ginnel during this route (as you leave Guiseley) but it is short enough to be able to reverse and operate a one-way system if someone is coming the other way. Remember to take care and stay at least two metres apart. As all cafes are closed, we recommend that you take water, or perhaps a coffee flask, and something to eat. ROUTE DESCRIPTION. Take the rising steps at the far end of the station platform and turn R to cross the footbridge over the railway line. Immediately turn Left on to a track and continue ahead to reach Roundwood Road. Cross when safe to do so and take the first road on the Left (Langley Lane), and Right again, soon, into Hollin Head. Continue on pavement to the end of the housing on Left and turn Left on track (Lonk House Lane). Cross stile and descend, bearing Left by War Memorial. Pass through two gates to descend on stony to track to Tong Park Reservoir (photo1). -

Act Early: Holme Wood Introduction
Act Early: Holme Wood Introduction n 10 January 2020, 124 people came together to talk about Holme OWood — a single locality in the Bradford District. The attendees comprised front-line practitioners from community organisations, public service providers, local elected members and policy makers, alongside some of the world’s leading data scientists via invitation from The Alan Turing Institute, the UK’s national centre for Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. The purpose of the meeting was to address two simple questions: “Can data science improve our collective understanding of a place like Holme Wood?” “Can we use data to help the community strengthen and grow by ‘acting together’?” In short, there was a positive answer (‘yes!’) to both questions. Our attendees’ observations and questions generated five action research projects, which we will be taking forward together. Crucially, the lines of enquiry for each project cut across traditional public service boundaries, reflecting the lived experience of people living and working in Holme Wood. Annex A provides more detail on the process followed on the day. 2 The five projects are: Exclusions, children not in school, and crime Healthy choices: healthy lives1 The impact of poor mental health on individuals, the community and services2 Pride, aspirations, role models and careers Adverse Childhood Experiences All projects will include an economic line of enquiry, considering the costs of current services and of issues playing out unaddressed — the costs to individuals, the community and services, plus the ‘opportunity cost’ — the potential positive financial effect of improving the situation and the cost of inaction. Annex B provides more detail on each project and the initial lines of enquiry proposed by our groups.
