The event proved to be a great success with about 110 people attending. A great and relaxed atmosphere throughout the evening developed quickly, allowing the participants to network, meet old classmates and acquaintances and share similar academic experiences. The alumni that attended the event came from over 30 different public and private schools and universities of Switzerland. Strong contingents came from the Universities of St. Gallen, Zurich and Geneva, the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne, the ETH Zurich and the EPFL. The guest speaker, Mr. Hans Michael Jebsen, who is an alumnus from the University of St. Gallen, delivered an engaging speech on the relations between Hong Kong and China and on the environmental problems accompanying the economic growth of the People’s Republic of China.

No need to mention that networking is not only taking place on social media sites in cyberspace but also among real people for which the alumni event 2012 proved successful indeed. Every third Thursday of the month, the SAHK organizes a round of golf at the Nine Eagles Golf Club at the airport. It is quite a special experience to play this course with seven Par 3 holes and two Par 4 holes, not only because some of the holes are rather tricky, but also because we play at night. While the course may not be suitable for absolute beginners, it is great fun for players of all other levels of experience. Just as in the years before the 2012 edition of our Swiss National Day event was again a great success. To better accommodate the huge interest the event was held at a larger venue in Happy Valley Racecourse treated to a cocktail reception on the fabulous outdoor terrace. The evening’s other highlights included the singing of the Swiss National Anthem, the speech of our Consul General Mrs. Rita Hämmerli- Weschke, the audio address of the President of the Swiss Confederation, Mrs. Eveline Widmer-Schlumpf, a lucky draw and – most popular of all – the Swiss Quiz, where points could be scored by answering tricky questions about everything Swiss. The excitement was heated up by the many fantastic prices to be won, from chocolate, to iPADs, all the luxurious holidays.
