Idaho Legislature Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee State Capitol Room 305 Boise, ID 83720 (208) 334 - 4735 DATE: February 3, 2011 SENATE FINANCE …………………….. TO: Senator John W. Goedde, Chairman, Senate Education Committee Dean Cameron Chairman Representative Bob Nonini, Chairman, House Education Committee Shawn Keough Vice Chairman FROM: Senator Dean L. Cameron, Chairman, Senate Finance Committee Representative Maxine T. Bell, Chairman House Appropriations Joyce Broadsword Committee Steven Bair Bert Brackett SUBJECT: Recommendations for FY 2012 Appropriation for Public Schools Dean Mortimer Please extend our heartfelt thanks to your committee members for making the Lee Heider commitment to join the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee for the budget Mitch Toryanski hearings last week. Your willingness to work together on budgetary priorities during these challenging economic times will provide support to JFAC, and hopefully together Diane Bilyeu we will provide the best possible educational opportunities for all of Idaho’s Nicole LeFavour schoolchildren. Although the Governor’s initial General Fund recommendation for Public Schools did HOUSE APPROPRIATIONS not include additional cuts – it was too optimistic considering the recent news that we …………………….. have received about revenues. We are sure you understand that once the Legislature Maxine Bell takes into consideration the reduction of projected General Fund revenues due to federal Chairman tax conformity, unanticipated sales tax credits for alternative energy, and the erosion of Darrell Bolz last year’s surplus; it is necessary to ask our germane committees to consider policy and Vice Chairman programmatic changes that support a lower spending level for FY 2012. George Eskridge The Co-Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen of JFAC have identified a range of between $50 Fred Wood million to $81 million below what the Governor recommended at $1,235,893,600 for Jim Patrick Public Schools in FY 2012.

  • 2020 Trust Women Kansas Primary Election Voter Guide
2020 Trust Women Kansas Primary Election Voter Guide Trust Women is a 501(c)3 organization and neither endorses nor opposes any candidate. In July we mailed a candidate questionnaire to each candidate running for office in the upcoming state and federal primary election, regardless of affiliation with any party or organization. The answers provided do not denote any affiliation or endorsement by Trust Women, nor does a candidate’s choice to participate in our questionnaire signify affiliation or endorsement. The endorsements we have included along with our questionnaire responses are those given by the anti-choice organization Kansans for Life and the pro-choice organization Planned Parenthood. Yes and No answers and any additional comments about the questions we asked candidates are included in this document. The voting record on issues of reproductive rights of each candidate already serving in public office is listed in this document as well. The voter guide itself is listed according to elected office and then numerically by district for each position. So, if you were looking for Kansas State Senator candidates in district 16, you would first look for the Kansas Senate section and follow down numerical order until you find district 16. Voter Guide Key Y: Yes N: No U: Undecided VRP: Voting record pro-choice VRA: Voting record anti-choice We hope you find the information below helpful. Kansas Candidate Survey These are the questions asked of the candidates running for office in Kansas. Each candidate had the opportunity to answer each question with a yes or no and provide further comment to explain their stance for each question.

16 2016 Lilly Report of Political Financial Support 1 16 2016 Lilly Report of Political Financial Support Lilly employees are dedicated to innovation and the discovery of medicines to help people live longer, healthier and more active lives, and more importantly, doing their work with integrity. LillyPAC was established to work to ensure that this vision is also shared by lawmakers, who make policy decisions that impact our company and the patients we serve. In a new political environment where policies can change with a “tweet,” we must be even more vigilant about supporting those who believe in our story, and our PAC is an effective way to support those who share our views. We also want to ensure that you know the story of LillyPAC. Transparency is an important element of our integrity promise, and so we are pleased to share this 2016 LillyPAC annual report with you. LillyPAC raised $949,267 through the generous, voluntary contributions of 3,682 Lilly employees in 2016. Those contributions allowed LillyPAC to invest in 187 federal candidates and more than 500 state candidates who understand the importance of what we do. You will find a full financial accounting in the following pages, as well as complete lists of candidates and political committees that received LillyPAC support and the permissible corporate contributions made by the company. In addition, this report is a helpful guide to understanding how our PAC operates and makes its contribution decisions. • Weekly Legislative Digest
Louisiana Federation of Teachers Weekly Legislative Digest May 1, 2015 Steve Monaghan, President * Les Landon, Editor 2015 Regular Legislative Session Now available on the Web at http://la.aft.org Panel votes to silence public employees Despite the best arguments of teachers, firefighters, police officers and other public servants, the House Labor and Industrial Relations Committee approved a bill that will make it inconvenient for employees to join and maintain membership in the union or association of their choice. The purpose of HB 418 by Rep. Stuart Bishop (R-Lafayette) is to weaken unions like the Louisiana Federation of Teachers and Louisiana Association of Educators. These are the groups that have raised questions about, and led the opposition to, so-called “reforms” backed by big business that all too often result in the privatization of education and diminution of the teaching profession. HB 418 would revoke the right of public employees to pay their union or association dues through payroll deduction. Since local governments currently have the authority to grant payroll deduction, the bill is seen by school boards and others as legislative meddling in their prerogatives. The bill is the brainchild of the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry, which has been twisting the arms of lawmakers to force its passage. The big business lobby recruited the Koch brothers backed Americans for Prosperity to publicly promote the bill. It is an example of what columnist Stephanie Grace, in another context, called “an ugly yet ascendant strain in American politics, a willingness to use any means necessary, no matter what chaos ensues or who gets hurt.” The vitriol motivating the bill’s supporters was on full display when an amendment was proposed to exempt the teacher unions from its prohibitions.

  • 2021 Legislative Wrap up Document
UTAH LEAGUE OF CITIES AND TOWNS LEGISLATIVE2021 WRAP UP #Cities Work INTRODUCTION 2021 was a legislative session like no other: new Governor, new legislators, COVID-19, Zoom voting, and an earlier start date after several 2020 special sessions. ULCT successfully nav- igated the 2021 General Session by relying on the League’s pillars: respecting the roles of state and local government, collaborating with stake- holders, and targeting policy-focused outcomes. ULCT took a hands-on approach with over 60 bills—testifying, negoti- ating, writing language, 245 and other advocacy BILLS TRACKED work—in addition to the INTRODUCTION 245 bills we tracked. Despite many bills preempt- ing local government authority, ULCT effectively defeated legislation mandating digital billboards, expanding short-term rentals, and increasing bureaucracy around fees, to name a few. ULCT invested significant resources negotiating and amending two preemptive land use bills, and will continue discussions with legislators on inspec- tions, building design elements, and internal ac- cessory dwelling units. Several bills supporting and improving law enforcement were passed due to the efforts of the Love, Listen, Lead Task Force, a joint ULCT and Utah Chiefs of Police Association endeavor. The Legislature also passed an unprec- edented investment in transit and transportation projects, efforts supported by the ULCT Board. Ultimately, our success comes back to the unpar- alleled involvement by our members. Thank you!
