Fredonia - Vermilion Cliffs Scenic Road Diné Biítah “Among the People” Scenic Road Naat’tsis’aan (Navajo Mountain) Along Rt. 89A | Length: 82.0 mi Along Rt. 12 & 64 | Length: 103 miles Scenic Road U.S. 98 | Length: 68 miles NAVAJO NATION Though Navajo Mountain is not one of the four sacred SCENIC BYWAYS mountains, the peak has been a sacred site to the Navajo, Hopi, Paiute, and other tribes since at least 8000 B.C. Along this byway you can see Lechee Rock, a 900-foot red butte, and Antelope Canyon, with its stunning striated layers of red rock. Winding through the heart of Navajoland, from Window Rock (the Capitol of the Navajo Nation), to Canyon de Chelly Trail of the Ancients Experience a 4,500 foot elevation change as the flora and National Monument, this road takes you to some of the most fauna shift from desert scrub to juniper, oak and aspens sacred spots in the Navajo Nation.
