Term 2 Week 10 1/2 Learning Community 3/4 Learning Community

During week 9 and 10 of this term, the 3/4 learning community have been busy learning about lots of interesting and important things in the areas of literacy, numeracy, inquiry and SWPBS. In reading, students have learnt about questioning; i.e., open and closed questions and improving comprehension by asking questions before, during and after reading. In writing, students have learnt to write explanation texts and improve their knowledge of spelling patterns. In maths, students have learnt to apply their understanding of the four operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) to solve worded problems. In inquiry, students have delved deeper into the essential question ‘What are the scientific principles that underpin change?’ by conducting experiments related to forces and friction. Lastly, in SWPBS, students have consolidated their understanding of mindfulness, the school matrix and character strengths. Please discuss these areas of learning with your child. Also, please make the time to listen to your child read every night to help reinforce their learning. Write the name of the book your child read on the relevant date, and sign to show that they have read to you. It is important that the bring their diary to school every day. Performing Arts with Mr Adam Foundation Learning Community

National Young Leaders Day Panicking a lot, thinking he wasn’t gonna be able to have a safe landing, gladly he did. Just under 2 weeks later he took off and started his journey around the world on his 54-day journey. He almost got shot down in Cairo, Egypt and almost got arrested in Sri Lanka. Just under 2 months of flying he completed his journey and touched down safely in the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. His most important lesson is that you can do whatever you put your mind to and that On Monday the 24th of May, all 14 of Wyndham Park Primary School we’re all capable of doing anything! My lesson from him is don’t Giggle starring on the show Giggle and Hoot and lucky last Michelle Young pass up opportunities that come in your path of life. I got this from when he Deputy Commissioner of Victoria Fire Rescue. spoke about when his coach in 2016 contacted him and told him to take a different route from the Hawks and that’s when he switched to the Demons the Lachie Smart: Lachie Smart. When he was 16, he got the idea of flying around the world, so he spent a whole year trying to get a single Josh Pyke: Josh Pyke has to be in my opinion the most Interesting. Josh Pyke is a sponsor and hundreds of calls to people all around the world just for him to Songwriter and Musician, but his story really inspires me. His career of music get half a million dollars to be able to fly. 365 days of non-stop calls just for really hit off in 2000 and has been for the past 2 decades. He’s had mistakes no response. He thought about giving up, but his dad told him to try and failure but it’s never stopped his passion for song writing. National Young Leaders Day

On Monday the student leaders had to wake up early and arrive at school before 8am. We had to leave school at 8am as there is horrific traffic jams on the freeway. Although we were caught up in traffic once or twice, we arrived in time. We started off by dancing to a song. There were five speakers whose names were Lachie Smart, Jordan Lewis, Josh Pyke, Jimmy Rees and Michelle Young. All of their stories were On Monday 24th of May the Student Leaders went to The inspiring and my favourite was Lachie Smart. Dhiman Basak Vice School Captain Grace Lian School Captain National Young Leaders Day National Young Leaders Day was a very eventful day (for me), a lot of unexpected surprises and knowledgeable guests and much more but I will try to tell as much as I can. The fateful day began, making it to a ghost town which was considered a school, Saamir there were only 2 souls as far as the eye could see. We greeted our fellow leaders and jabbered on about how the day would unfold, as the other 12 leaders slowly but surely rolled in. We began a lengthy bus ride to the Convention Centre, it was NYLD 2021 boring at times, but we kept ourselves occupied. At the Melbourne Convention Centre we went through the foyer and entered the immense auditorium and were greeted by the presenters with a dance routine which I personally enjoyed. When the show started it opened with a slightly daggy opening video and then the first speaker began their speech. We were presented with a booklet where we could take notes on the speakers and we had to write a question and a lesson for each speaker. Speaker 5: Deputy Michelle Young, Female Fire Fighter The last speaker of the event was Deputy Commissioner Michelle Young who is a firefighter in Melbourne and beat the odds being a female firefighter. Jimmy talked about how he got into children’s the past. My question for Michelle was "What was your opinion on men entertainment. As I listened I wondered about how different the having the ability to get more jobs than women?". My important lesson was production is behind the set. For my question I wrote down “Where did "You do your best". you find your sense of humour?” I actually didn’t get a chance to write an And that was my perspective of NYLD 2021, Thanks for reading. important lesson because I genuinely couldn’t get my head around the fact that Jimmy Giggle, in the flesh, was here in the auditorium.
