To say that 2019/20 has been an interesting and challenging year would be an understatement and for very different reasons. The year began with the necessary focus on transformation of health and social care services to meet increasing demand. I have been extremely impressed with the way this requirement has been enthusiastically embraced by staff at all levels right across the organisation. -

Glossary of key terms and abbreviations EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This thematic review by the RQIA was undertaken during September and October 2007 in all five Health and Social Care (HSC) trusts and was in response to a request from the DHSSPS for independent assurance that the necessary safeguards were in place for children and vulnerable adults in learning disability and mental health hospitals. In particular, the review drew on the matters raised in correspondence (September 2006) from the Permanent Secretary at the DHSSPS to board and legacy trust chief executives requesting assurance in relation to the procedures in place within each trust to prevent abuse and to ensure that any incidents, which may arise, are dealt with properly. -

The 2020/21 year has been a year like no other. The global COVID-19 pandemic changed priorities considerably as the Trust necessarily shifted its focus to dealing with the considerable pressures posed by often very ill patients whilst at the same time trying to maintain as many health and social care services as possible. -

There certainly have been many difficult and challenging issues, and occasions when we wished that we had performed better but overall our staff have risen to the challenges with dedication and professionalism. They have coped with increasing demands, embraced new ways of working, maintained and improved quality and safety, and sought to deliver our services in ways that better fit with our patients and clients own preferences. This is exemplified by our response to the increasing number of more elderly patients, often presenting with more complex problems. To address this we have refocused our services thereby enabling us to get people home sooner and then support them to remain in their local community and maintain more active lifestyles. This is a real tribute to staff who have worked to deliver more integrated care across our acute and community services. -

COUNTMAKE EDUCATION CONSTITUENCY PROFILES FOR FURTHER AND HIGHER EDUCATION IN NORTHERN IRELAND CONSTITUENCY PROFILES FOR FURTHER AND HIGHER EDUCATION MAKE EDUCATION COUNT IN NORTHERN IRELAND Introduction It’s 2010 – the second decade of the 21st century – and it remains a stark reality that Northern Ireland is still riddled with some of the more dire statistics in the UK, when it comes to educational attainment and employment. Northern Ireland is bottom of UK tables that measure employment rates and people with qualifications, according to UCU analysis. Just over two-thirds of people in Northern Ireland (69.7%) are employed, the worst percentage of the UK's 12 regions. The South East of England tops the table with over three-quarters of people (78.5%) employed. The average is 74%. Northern Ireland has the highest percentage of people without qualifications. One in five (21.8%) have no qualifications, which is a long way off the national average of 12.4%. Northern Ireland fares slightly better when it comes to the percentage of people with a degree though. Over a quarter of people (25.7%) have a degree, which puts Northern Ireland in the middle of the regions' table but still some way behind the average of 29%.
