An Afternoon with Norman Kennedy / 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm / Taos Public Library $80 / no materials fee / limit 15 students / Norman Kennedy A Rare Opportunity - Norman packs this workshop full of instruction and information for those fortunate enough to be able to participate. Included in the workshop but not limited to, students learn to card batts for , make as taught to Norman by old workers in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland and the Canadian Appalachians, and it even includes a demonstration on a Walking Wheel. From start to finishing a small project, try different needles & wool . Go home confidant that you can create amazing projects on your own. Mud is for Pies ~ Not Beautiful Handspun Yarns / 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm / Tent 1 Kit Carson Park / $70 / Materials fee $19 / limit 15 students / Peggy Doney Like a moth to the light, we are drawn to the kaleidoscope. Don’t get burned when spinning only to have your dancing colors bog down into ho-hum. We'll explore 4 ways to preserve those lusciously colored that we've purchased, instead of losing their lovely distinctiveness. Student to provide: in good working order, oil, lazy kate, niddy noddy, 3-4 bobbins, pen or pencil. Students should be able to spin comfortably in both directions & ply, and understand how their wheel works. Skills: Advanced beginner or intermediate spinner.

If Sheep Could Tat…. / 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm / Tent 2 ~ Kit Carson Park $70 / Materials fee $15 / limit 10 students / Julie Sprinkle If sheep could tat, they'd tat with wool of course! Come see how they do it ~ learn to tat lace in fuzzy and relatively large format wool. If you've never tatted this is a great place to start. If you already tat, here is an altogether, new way to think about the art. We'll cover foundational flip used to create the double stitch, making chains and rings along the way. Basic pattern notations will also make an appearance. By the end of the session, you should feel comfortable enough with the basics to join another class and make something fun & functional. Student to provide: Note taking materials & an adventurous spirit. Skills: Aspiring tatters ages 14 yrs & up.

Owl Cup Cozy (crochet) / 9:00 am - 11:00 am / Tent 1 ~ Kit Carson Park $35 / no materials fee / limit 30 students / Dana Bincer & Deborah Bagley Woo loves coffee?! (or tea or coco?) Crochet your own cup cozy that will keep an eye on your drink. We'll take a basic cozy and dress it up with large eyes, a petite beak and 3D wings made using the Crocodile Stitch. Students to provide: 50 yds ea worsted weight yarn in 2 coordinating colors, 2 yds black yarn, 20 yds white yarn, 5 yds yellow (colors of choice may be substituted), appropriate size crochet hook Skills: Intermediate crocheter, must know how to ch, sl st, sc, hdc, dc, trc, crochet in rows & in the round, inc, dec, crochet in both, front & back loops.

Cozy Tatted Cuffs / 9:00 am - 11:00 am / Tent 2 ~ Kit Carson Park $35 / Materials fee $25 / limit 10 students / Julie Sprinkle If you like to drape yourself in lace, here's an on-the-cuffs project ~ warm your wrists with tatted cozies! Explore how a change in fiber turns traditional edging patterns into a pair of wristlets. You might even think of them as winter petticoats for your sleeves ~ built with rings & chains then finished with a pair of button fasteners. We'll work on finishing the first cuff in class, with materials provided to allow you to finish the second cuff later. Students to provide: Note taking materials & an adventurous spirit. Skills: A good grasp of rings & chains, joins and turning the work are recommended. Ages 14 yrs & up.

Broomstick Lace Scarf (crochet) / 11:30 am - 1:30 pm / Tent 1 ~ Kit Carson Park $35 / no materials fee / limit 30 students / Dana Bincer & Deborah Bagley Designers Dana & Deborah take you through combining traditional broomstick lace with "drop stitch", or single stranded broomstick lace to create this light and airy scarf. Your friends will think you knit it. Students to provide: 200 yds of Wool/Silk Blend or the like (light weight yarn with good drape), crochet hooks F, G, or H - just one, using a size slightly larger than yarn calls for, knitting needle - (1) #50 / 25 mm and (1) #17 / 12.75mm Skills: Intermediate crocheter, must know how to ch, sl st, sc, crochet in rows, crochet in both and back loops, have at least tried Broomstick Lace (video link - please practice before class)

Introduction to Intuitive Knitting / 11:30 am - 1:30 pm / Tent 2 ~ Kit Carson Park $35 / no materials fee / limit 18 students / Faith Welsh The process of Intuitive Knitting combines the free form elements of Intarsia, short rows and lace stitches to create a fluid, non-linear, personal surface. Although the results look rich & complex, the techniques are really very easy. We will be learning how to incorporate our own handspun art yarns (or any other special yarns) to set them off to their best advantage. This class will be a hands on overview of free form knitting, exploring texture, color and shape with the techniques we will be learning. Students to provide: Variety of yarns that excite you - include different weights (worsted, lace, handspun, etc.), colors and textures; a selection of circular knitting needles in different sizes, with cords of different lengths. Whether for stranded knitting, stripes or solid colors ~ learn how to choose the colors you really love and get the effect you are aiming for. With a minimum of color theory and a maximum of play, you will gain a better understanding of how colors and their placement influences your choices & designs. Let's experiment! This class will teach you where and how to properly measure your dog, determine ease, how to shape the sweater to fit your dog, customizations for special needs and life style adaptations. Join the designer of the world renowned "Darling Darby Dog Sweater" as she shares her 40 years of experience knitting sweaters for dogs. Using a drum carder and a variety of fibers for color and texture, we'll create beautiful and unique art batts. We'll also discuss various methods to spin and/or felt these art batts to enhance their color and texture presentation. Students to provide: Drum carder if student has one. Instructor will provide drum carders student may use if they don't have one of their own. Skills: Beginner

Kids Hands On / 11:30 am - 1:30 pm / Tent 2 ~ Kit Carson Park Free - Donations accepted / no materials fee / limit 8 students / Barbara Ann Downs TDLT Fiber Artisans is offering a hands-on weaving experience for first time weavers to weave their very own piece with our hand-dyed wool. Class is limited to 8 students / 4 during the first hour & 4 during the second hour. Students do not need to bring anything. No weaving experience is required. Minimum age of 7 yrs old.

Afternoon Teapot Cozy (knitting) / 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm / Tent 1 ~ Kit Carson Park $35 / Materials fee $5 / limit 15 students / Jean Clement Bring your creativity and knit a cozy for your teapot. We'll use bulky weight yarn for a snug & warm wrap and your choice of texture, cables or lace stitches. Students to provide: Approx 150 yds bulky weight yarn, appropriate size circular knitting needles, tape or gauge measure, scissors, yarn needle. Skills: Intermediate knitting

Rug Hooking a Sheep Decoration w/Handspun Yarn / 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm / Tent 2 Kit Carson Park / $35 / Materials fee $20 / Saundra Keiffer Using a pre-packaged kit, students will learn how to do basic rug hooking techniques and will explore strategies for completing their project. We'll draw our own sheep to hook so each project will be unique. And students will also learn how to finish the back of their projects and with having learned the basic loop technique, they can progress to larger, more complicated projects. Students to provide: Scissors, bulky weight yarn (handspun if they have it). Skills: Beginner, basic sewing skills helpful for finishing project back.
