Professional experience

08/2016 - Present Architects/ Revery Architecture: Intern Architect A core member of the project team for the SE3P (Sustainable Energy & Environmental Engineering) building in Surrey, BC. SE3P is a $116 million, 16 000m2, federally and provincially funded fast-tracked design-build project. Managed consultant teams and coordinated architectural deliverables through major milestones including development permit and building permit submissions, tender packages, and full construction documents. Gained valuable experience with working drawings, detailing and construction documentation, project management, and mechanical, electrical and structural coordination. Currently involved in the construction administration phase of the project.

01/2015-05/2016 Gibbs Gage Architects: Intern Architect Lead design on three projects including a major office tower podium and plaza renovation, an extensive master planning and rezoning application for a 5.5 hectare, 1200 unit apartment complex, and a proposal for a community center expansion. Also collaborated on several other projects across a wide variety of scales and sectors. Involved in the design process from Schematic Design through to Working Drawings. Collaborated closely with internal team members, clients and consultants and worked with City of authorities through Land Use and Development Permit approval.

2012-2014 Master of Architecture, University of Calgary Targeted social and environmental issues in my studio practice, striving for integration with the landscape and public domain. Practiced iterative physical model making and implemented industry leading software including Rhinoceros, Grasshopper and Revit. The sole student in my graduating class to be involved in the Architecture Team for the 2013 Solar Decathlon and one of six students to collaborate on a design-build at Aldinga Arts Eco Village in Australia. Graduated with a 3.8 GPA.

2009-2012 Bachelor of Fine Arts, University of Calgary My paintings and silkscreen practice explored pattern and portraiture, and my sculptural practice focused on usable objects that straddled the division between art and design. Completed electives in Physics, Biology and Calculus to gain a broader knowledge base. Graduated with distinction.

Design|Build

2014 Embrace: Aldinga Arts Eco Village, South Australia Collaborated with a team of six other students to design and construct a community gathering space and shade structure with bicultural significance. Utilized CNC router technology as well as traditional construction practices.

2012-2013 Team Alberta Solar Decathlon: Architecture Co-Lead Worked within a multidisciplinary team of students to design and construct a net zero energy house that competed in the U.S. Solar Decathlon in Irvine, California. Involved in every phase of the project from conceptual design through to construction, and during the three week competition in Irvine. Team Alberta placed 9th in the 2013 U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon.

Conceptual Design Competitions

2015 Lost Spaces, Calgary, Alberta: Cloverleaf: Planning Field Prize & Mayor’s Urban Design Award A collaboration with David Wittman, Mike Murray, Jonathan Sagi, Katelyn Junkin and Dave Robertson. Cloverleaf is a proposal to utilize land along Transportation Utility Corridors as farmland and build greenhouses at traffic interchanges to grow produce to feed the city. Cloverleaf aims to drastically reduce the distance that food travels from farm to plate and recognizes the opportunity to stimulate the economy by creating jobs in urban agriculture.

2016 Off The Rails Design Competition, Fort Collins, Colorado: Hop on the Grain Train Linear Brewery: Finalist A collaboration with Donny Wolcott on a concept for a linear brewery above the railway on Mason Street, downtown Fort Collins. The concept aims to improve the public realm by creating a pedestrian link above the railway. The pathway is flanked by linear plots growing hops, wheat and barley for the production of beer. The path passes through the brewery, showcasing the brewing process to pedestrians. Electricity for the brewery is generated from the vibrations of trains passing below.
