On 5th April 2019, Ovie Brume Foundation hosted Mr. Mai Atafo to a session with Fashion Designers and other enthusiasts on Business Management of Fashion Design. Mai shared his journey so far, dating back from elementary school to the Fashion industry, after having a successful career as a Brand Manager of a Leading FMCG. The participants who were eager to learn from his wealth of experience asked questions and Mai delved into various parts of his business ranging from staffing to branding, customer acquisition, retention and public relations. The session was practical, insightful and participants were inspired to apply the knowledge gained to their respective businesses.

World Malaria Day

In this vein, Ovie Brume Foundation in collaboration with Xcene Research distributed mosquito nets to mothers and pregnant women living in underserved communities in Lagos State. Mrs. Patience Timi and Mr. Boss Thomas, beneficiaries of the program, appreciated and acknowledged the contributions of Ovie Brume Foundation and other partners to improving the health of Tarkwa Bay Island residents. According to them, malaria has been a major health challenge in the community due to its terrains; the distribution of mosquitoes nets to pregnant and nursing mothers will therefore reduce malaria incidence and morbidity in the community.

07 World Book Day

t the core of Ovie Brume Foundation's activities are programs which prioritise literacy enhancement of target beneficiaries. Book reading is a major component of our "After ASchool” and "Book on Wheels" (BOW) projects, which addresses poor reading habits and literacy level of public school children. As we commemorate #WorldBookDay we reaffirm our commitment to provide access to books and other educational resources, which aid literacy development.

08 IHS Partners with Ovie Brume Foundation in commemorating International Women's Day 2019

n commemoration of the International Womens Day 2019, IHS Nigeria Ltd through its “Charity Fund” Isupported three members of the Ovie Brume Foundation Youth Centre under the Project “No Excuses” scholarship scheme. The Fund will support beneficiaries' access to all components of the scholarship scheme: Healthcare, Nutrition, Clothing, and Education. The Foundation engaged parents of the new beneficiaries to familiarise them with expectations, benefits and their role in ensuring their children make the best of the scholarship opportunity.

Project “No Excuses” (PNE) Scholarship Scheme is a scholarship scheme with the overall goal of mitigating the underlying factors that hinder outstanding public primary and secondary school children from having educational opportunities. Ovie Brume Foundation reaffirms its commitment to ensuring that all children of school age are in school. We call on all stakeholders to partner with us in achieving the Sustainable Development Goal 4: Education is the greatest asset to bequeath to the generation.

Ovie Brume Foundation Taekwondo Competition

aekwondo is a scientific and the most systematic Korean traditional martial arts, Twhich teaches more than physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing the spirit and life by training the mind and body and it is an officially recognized game in the Olympics.

On 8th June 2019, the Ovie Brume Foundation organized the 5th edition of the Ovie Brume Foundation U-14 Taekwondo competition, which held at the Basket Ball Court of the National Stadium, , Lagos. 109 contestants aged 8 to 17 from 12 clubs and public / private schools, participated in the competition and a total of 27 gold, 27 silver and 55 bronze medals were won in different categories.

09 Children's Day 2019 Celebration

Key highlights of the event includes speeches, spelling bee, brainteasers, games, talent hunts, dance and presentation of gifts to winners in different categories. Omorin Oladejo, Product Manager, Access Bank facilitated the Financial Literacy session and educated participants on financial attitudes and skills necessary to make informed financial choices as well as charged students to inculcate saving habits, set financial goals and make right decisions. Pros, Cons, and Alternatives” respectively.

The 2019 Children's Day celebration had in attendance about 800 children from 32 public primary and secondary schools and 115 adults comprising of teachers, school heads and dignitaries from the Lagos State Ministry of Education, Access Bank Plc, Cadbury Plc, Lagos State Parks and Garden Agency and Lagoon Hospital.

11 Book Tour with Ayo Oyeku and Ouida Books

he “Book on Wheels” is a copyright project of the Ovie Brume Foundation, which seeks to improve literacy Tamong primary school pupils. It is a community integrated literacy enhancement initiative which simply put is 'reading wherever you are'. In May 2019, the Ovie Brume Foundation partnered with Ouida Books to organise a “Book Tour” in targeted primary schools across Eti-Osa LGA. The Book tour held in 4 public primary schools and featured children's book author, Ayo Oyeku, who read two of his books, “Mafoya” and “The Finish Line” with the pupils. The first phase of the tour held on 16th & 17th May at Okun Ajah Primary School and Islamiyat Jamatul Primary School respectively while the second phase of the tour held on 13th & 14th June at Jinadu Anglican Primary School and Dodan Barracks Primary School respectively.

Overall, the Book tour was a success as it excited, motivated and educated pupils on the importance of reading while also providing them an opportunity to read, chat and ask questions. Through the “Book on Wheels” project, the Ovie Brume Foundation is contributing to improving the reading culture in schools as well as contributing to rebuilding libraries across Nigeria. The Foundation therefore donated books to the libraries of Jinadu Anglican Primary School and Dodan Barracks Primary School, in line with the objectives of the “Book on Wheels” project.

12 Ovie Brume Foundation commemorates International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

vie Brume Foundation joined the rest of the world in commemorating International Day OAgainst Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. On 25th June 2019, the Foundation in partnership with Save D Future Initiative organized a sensitization and awareness program for secondary school students in Victoria Island, Lagos, hosted at Akande Dahunsi Memorial School.

The program educated about 150 students from 4 government schools. The program which was organized to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, educated about 150 students from 4 government schools. Guests speakers, Julius Ilori (Save D Future Initiative), Mosope Ogunleye (Rivers Side Support Group), Precious Ajunwa (Galaxy 4 Peace), Toyin Benson (Well Signs Initiative) spoke on topics such as, Choices, Goal Setting, Peer Pressure and Effects of Drug Abuse.

The students also broke into groups for the mentoring sessions facilitated by guest speakers. The discussions focused on enlightening the students about career choices. The Ovie Brume Foundation recommits to positively reshaping youth through its educative programs and activities. #Saynotodrugs
