You can choose to back up to dedicated services, like saving all your photos to Google Plus or Flickr, your documents to Dropbox or Google Docs, and your music to iTunes Match or Amazon Cloud Music. But in many cases, you have to pay extra for those services. It may be diffi cult to recover your data from them. And some may compress your fi les in ways that can distort them. You can also go the old-fashioned route and use an external hard drive, which is relatively cheap, easy and fast. But if your computer gets infected with malware, it can compromise your backup disc as well. And if a disaster destroys your computer, it will likely wipe out your backup also. So, after talking with backup experts, here’s my advice: If you can aff ord it, choose more than one method. Or, as Richard Fisco, the test program leader for electronics at Consumer Reports, calls it, take the “belt and suspenders” approach. Back up to a local hard drive and to a cloud service. Or back up to more than one external drive, one of which you store in a place away from your computer. Or save your most important fi les to Dropbox while doing a regular online backup. Health talk on diabetes management in Ramadan

Diabetics can find day-to-day management of the condition while fasting a challenge. A health talk to address these issues was held at Naseem Al-Rabeeh Medical Centre recently. Dr Deepak Chandramohan MD, senior physician, and Shemima Sunil, clinical nutritionist, were the key speakers at the event. Awareness of proper diabetes management with structured diabetes education is essential for the management of the condition while preparing for the fasting period. Dr Deepak spoke in depth on the good management practices during Ramadan for diabetic patients, highlighting various dos and don’ts for this period and on medication adjustment. Shemima spoke on the diet restrictions during the fasting period and what food to avoid or moderate when breaking fast. She also explained that distributing calories over two to three smaller meals during the no-fasting period is better than eating one big meal as it prevents high blood sugar levels in diabetics. Both speakers stressed on the importance of hydration during the fast in the prevailing summer temperatures. A large number of people attended the talk, which was followed by an interactive session where the audience got to ask questions and clear their doubts and confusions. 8 GULF TIMES Tuesday, June 14, 2016 COMMUNITY Ramadan at the St. Regis Doha

Billy Bibby

Billy Bibby didn’t remain with Catfish And The Bottlemen long enough to experience the enormous success the band are now enjoying. He left to concentrate firstly on writing his own songs and then to form his band, Billy Bibby and The Wry Smiles. “I played some acoustic gigs to gauge the audience response to my songs,” Billy explained. “Obviously people knew me from Catfish And The Bottlemen so the gigs I did had a totally diff erent sound. But I was really encouraged by the audience feedback so I set about finding the right guys to form a band and turn my acoustic songs into melodic rock numbers.” Those guys were guitarist Rob Jones, bass player Matt Thomas and drummer Michael Pearce. The band released their debut single, Waitin’ For You, last November. This has now been followed by a four-song EP, Bide Your Time. Be it the changing physical landscape of the country, its natural beauty or the cultural impact of these changes on the lives of the people, 11 lenses have captured it all in varying perspectives. Master shutterbugs with unique styles of photography formed a group, comprising locals and expatriates, to go on photography excursions together. The result of their individual and group photographic journeys around Qatar is being exhibited in ‘A Picture Lasts Longer’ currently up at Katara Art Centre (KAC) till July 23. In this exhibition, the group F/11’s photographs encapsulate the things we wish we could have forever. There is a chance to settle into intimate moments with friendly faces, to contemplate a majestic landscape permanently resting beneath a starry night and to be in the presence of monumental architecture no matter where we are.
