THE HERD WITH COLIN COWHERD LIVE FROM MARLINS PARK, MIAMI

Monday, July 10, 2017

MIAMI, FL – FS1 original studio program THE HERD WITH COLIN COWHERD is live from Marlins Park in Miami, the site of the 2017 MLB All-Star Game, today and tomorrow from 12:00- 3:00 PM ET. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred and FOX Sports MLB broadcasters Joe Buck, Kevin Burkhardt, and were guests on today’s show. Highlights are below.

Coverage of the 2017 MLB All-Star Game continues tomorrow at 7:30 PM ET on the FOX broadcast network.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred addresses the league’s increase in home runs (Video): “The traditionalists are tough on us because they care so much about the sport. They want to make sure that we’re not ever doing the wrong thing; that we are doing the best we can to preserve and enhance the game, so I try to take it as a compliment.

“The game has changed a lot. People are focused on home runs – it’s not just home runs – it’s home runs, lots of strike outs and more tolerance for strike outs. It is a very different game now than it was even a decade ago.”

Joe Buck, who prepares for his record 19th All-Star Game from the booth, says he’s never seen anyone quite like Yankees slugger Aaron Judge: “I have never seen anybody like that.

“You think somebody 6-7, 280 is going to be literally a stiff – like they're not going to be able to move. He played some center field in college. He was a good basketball player; a good football player. He's an athlete, and that's the freak part, that he's an athlete at that size. I think he’s played the heck out of right field – nobody’s talked about that. Everyone talks 30 home runs, but defensively he moves around well for a huge man. So I can't, personally in and in my experience, I can't compare him to anybody.”

Alex Rodriguez says the Cubs could be suffering from a hangover (Video): “The hangover effect – it’s unbelievable. It is real and it’s tangible. What do I mean by that – you’re playing for the , you haven’t won in 108 years, your emails, your texts, they’re blowing up around the clock, 24-7. There’s opportunity everywhere to make money, to do commercials, to do appearances – we call it the banquet tour. It’s hard to focus on the next season when you’re doing so many things to celebrate the prior year.”

John Smoltz says Clayton Kershaw’s pitching transcends eras: “You can have a guy with the greatest gifts and tools, but if he doesn't know how to get to them, it doesn’t mean as much. He has a unique delivery. He works out extremely hard. He's smart. He's dedicated. But he just flat-out can throw the ball where he wants to with that stuff better than anybody.”
