Report on changes in Policy or Practice that were implemented  A tremendous amount of stress was alleviated by having Loren Ratajczak handle the responsibility of handling the gate receipts. I can tell you I felt a lot more comfortable not walking out of Coca Cola Park with $7,000.00.

Problems encountered/ concerns Concern(s):  Bennett choosing to enter Section VI playoffs with a 5-6 record in City B Division. Defeated by Iroquois in game which lasted only a few innings, a waste of time. money and rearranged seedings.  Msgr. Martin teams not getting started on time for Playoff game at Coca Cola Field (over 30 minutes late), which caused our late game Albion-Pittsford Sutherland to be played at an unreasonable hour.  Lack of coaches attending Section VI finals games. We look like poor sisters to our football, brethren.

Recommendations for next season  Since baseball over the past seasons has proven to show a profit, we'd like to once again split the A and B classes like basketball. The games could, but do not have to be played at a central neutral field(s). We have enough patches in reserve to do this without any cost this season for patches. Two trophies/plaques would need to be purchased. After evaluating the cost for a season to see if the games could break at least even, it would be voted on again.  If at all possible I'd like our workers to have Section VI baseball shirts to work at the Stadium. The past two years I spent my own money to buy shirts to make baseball look "official".

Other pertinent data  Changes- With Lake Shore moving to Division III. Tim Racey (Starpoint) will take over as ECIC Division II Chairman. Dave Buncy will remain Division III Chairman , Kowal will be backup in case he can't show.  Winter/Fall Meeting- Monday, November 1, 2010 at Illio's in Blasdell at 6:30 PM  Thank you to everyone who watched Section VI baseball. Being settled in our new house, I will now have time to do some additions to website. Send in Stats to state records, so I can put out a SECTION VI records page.

Financial summary (receipts/expenditures): To be Submitted by Loren Ratajczak

Sectional and Post-Sectional Results Thanks to cooperating weather, great grounds crews, and hard work by many people the 2010 Section VI Playoffs and Regionals were a huge success. The Class AA, A, and B finals were held at Sal Maglie Stadium on consecutive nights. With a huge amount of help from Jim Conley, Mark Waple, Bill Stedman, Phil Coyle, Dan Bazzani and others, the three-day event was successful. The Class C and D games were held in Jamestown at Diethrick Park. With a huge amount of help from Mike Janisch, Rick DeKay, and Gordon Johnson the two day event was a huge success. The Class D and A Regional contests were held at Coca Cola field. Once again Section VI coaches Mark Waple and Rick DeKay, and former coaches Bill Steadman, Dan Kaplan, and Jim Conley were important in pulling off the event. Huge thanks to Mike Buczkowski, the GM of the Bisons, Dan Bazzani, the outgoing AD at Niagara Falls, and the City of Jamestown for their hard work. A huge amount of thanks to Cindy, Pauline, Loren, Tom in the Section VI office, and a big welcome and thanks to Timm Slade to our office. His enthusiasm is outstanding!

RESULTS- SECTION VI PLAYOFFS Class AA Clarence defeated Orchard Park 7-3 (It was Clarence's and Coach Dave Smith's fourth strait Section VI final appearance, winning 3 of 4) Class A Albion defeated Williamsville South 5-3 (Classy coach Gary Mannella finishes on top once again) Class B Tonawanda defeated Falconer 2-0 (Coach John Frank wins first Section Vi title) Class C Frewsburg defeated Cassadaga Valley 12-1 (Many for Frewsburg, second for coach Jay Grann) Class D Pine Valley defeated North Collins 6-0 (Coach Chris Buczek's first title)

Regional Playoffs Class AA played at Dwyer Stadium McQuaid defeated Clarence 3-1 Class A played at Coca Cola Field Pittsford-Sutherland defeated Albion 6-2 Class B played in Dansville Tonawanda defeated Wellsville 2-1 Class C played at Dwyer Stadium Frewsburg defeated Caledonia Mumford 3-0 Class D played at Coca Cola field Bolivar Richburg defeated Pine Valley 5-1

STATE SEMI-FINALS Class B played at NYSEG Stadium Westhill defeated Tonawanda 5-0 Class C played at Broome Community College Immaculate Heart defeated Frewsburg 2-0

 Congratulations to Tonawanda and Frewsburg who acted like true gentlemen in Binghamton. They were well coached and well behaved.  A sad but happy farewell to Gary Mannella on his retirement, Albion baseball won't be the same. Thanks to all who helped out!  Congrats to Seniors Garrett Cortwright (Frontier), Cody Stonish (Sweet Home) for signing at Canisius, POY Asa Johnson (Frewsburg) to joining his brother Cael, Jason Radwan (Lake Shore), former POY Jamie Wallschlager (Gowanda) at St. Bonaventure, Joel Klock (Grand Island) at Niagara, Dan Parker (Iroquois) at Mercyhurst.  Congrats to our 12 Section VI , who surprised the critics and earned a Bronze Medal at the Games, and to upcoming seniors Zac Lauricella (Clarence) who has given a verbal commitment to St. Johns, and Rohn Pierce (Newfane) verbal Canisius.

Report on changes in Policy or Practice that were implemented

1. Our sport ran as a federated sport this season. Twenty-two Section 6 teams competed in the 2010 season of Girls Lacrosse. The alignment was 4 divisions based on size. A (6 teams), B1 (6 teams), B2 (6 teams), C (4 teams). Classification numbers for girls lacrosse will change for the 2010 season and planning must be given to the federation alignment once again. This season ran well with the alignment because all divisions were consistent in make up (all A, larger B, smaller B, all C). It could be considered to keep things as are although the divisions will shift somewhat.

A trial run of a B1 and B2 division champions was put into place and successfully run through the B1 and B2 sectional champions and then overall winner to advance to the Far West Regionals.

2. The only changes in practice or policy for 2010 season were in regards to safety. Officials were to call a tighter game when it came to checking. Rule changes involving yellow cards included an offending team playing a person down for three minutes. Another rule change was time out on possession. A uniform marking (side stripe) rule for all schools to prepare for now will be enforced in 2013.

Problems encountered/ concerns There is a need for more officials in our sport.

Recommendations for next season 1. Consideration for 2011 Playoffs – recommend to play at a common site for all final games A, B, C for the following reasons: - section chairs can be present at all games - TWC TV coverage was not even considered this year with split sites and it has been good for exposure for the sport the prior two years - Provides a better opportunity for post season awards and honors committee to see nominated players 2. Will suggest that scheduling be looked at and try to avoid the two week delay between final contest and post season play.

Other pertinent data 1. Senior Game was held at Canisius College Sunday, June 13, 2010. Amherst was the sponsoring school. Final report (roster and financial) for that event has been submitted in a separate report. 2. Rick Schmitt and Janet Battaglia, co chairs attended the state tournament and state committee meetings in Cortland on June 10-12, 2010

Recommendations for next season A survey was conducted in reference to the following issues in regards to girl’s softball in State.  Should the pitching distance be changed from 40 ft. to 43 ft.?  Should players be allowed to wear metal spikes on all levels?  In general, Bats today have changed the game in a good way.  Should the International Tiebreaker rule be eliminated?

The result from this survey will be sent out once the data is compiled.

Other pertinent data Other information that was discussed was the pilot program for the Modified softball. Many sections used the 5 runs per inning and other sections did not use the pilot program.

Problems encountered/ concerns Late Entries for Sectionals – late scratches for States – late opt out papers for States – no show on State bus.

Recommendations for next season Chairman attend each preseason league meeting & explain this years concerns, proper entry procedures, timely opt out forms and timely state scratches. We will reword the section handbook to avoid these things from happening next year.

Other pertinent data The Section VI meet hosted by Hamburg went well. The Hamburg staff did an outstanding job. We had 134 athletes (71 girls & 63 boys) and 52 coaches attend the State Meet. There was one no show for the bus but the athlete and coach were there to compete on Saturday. The athletes showed great maturity and conducted themselves very well. There were two section VI records set as well as numerous personal bests.
