CELEBRATING 35 YEARS SISTERS KIWANIS CLUB, SISTERS, OREGON APRIL 11, 2013 - VOL. 35 ISSUE 7 Almost There! We Need YOUR Help! by Tom Worcester Food Bank Fundraising Chairman • • • What? We still need funds for the Food Bank FOOD BANK BUILDING Project? FUNDRAISING 125 With less than a month to go before Sisters Kiwanis will break ground (actually, garage 100 As of 4/5/13 tear-down) for a new food bank structure, 84 the fund-raising portion of the project 69 $78,563 received from remains active. Another way to put it is, “If private sources + 53 you have not yet contributed to the project, $23,000 from club = it’s not too late!” 38

26 $101,513 to date As of the end of March, 26 current and Thousands of dollars of Thousands former members of the Sisters Kiwanis club 23 The Club has committed $23,000 of our Long Range Planning dollars to the project total need of $124,919 Food Bank have donated $30,372 of the $101,513 raised for the project. Kiwanian March 2013 gifts range from $100 to $10,422, including a $5,000 donation and 10 gifts of $1,000 each. Families It must be noted that the grand total above includes two $10,000 gifts 99 pledged but not yet paid, as well as $2,700 in additional promises. Adults Fortunately, all of these resources are reliable! 194 Children 6-18 So why do we need to keep asking for gifts? Construction costs have 75 been calculated at just under $125,000. At this point, only one of the Children 0-6 foundations solicited by the grand writing committee has responded, 17 and that response was negative. It is possible that none of the Value foundations will contribute funds for the project. $18,319.50 It is conceivable, also, that we could end up over-subscribed if Volunteers/Hours foundation money comes in. That is a quandary that has delightfully Kiwanis positive potential in the over-all context of a greatly improved 16/126 community food bank. Community 21/80 Our wish is to break ground on May 1st with funds supporting our efforts! www.SistersKiwanis.org SERVING THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD www.Facebook.com/SistersKiwanis page 1 HEADLINES New Food Bank Building Progress Snapshot by Dave Roberts Food Bank Building Chairman • • • Building Permit Application. Planning and participation in the parade help is needed. We need to firm up a method of displaying our two large signs that give information about the Buckaroo Breakfast. The best method is to display the signs one each facing the crowds on the sidewalks. A pickup with a bed equipped to hold up the signs has been used in the past years. Know someone with a panel truck? Members of our club and Key Club will be needed to carry new signs over their shoulders as they walk in the parade. I'm looking for members who can help assembles signs with some clip art that we have (of a stack of pancakes, fried bacon, a patty sausage, fried eggs, a cup of coffee, a glass of O.J., carton of milk, etc.) onto the new sandwich board signs that can be worn by members marching in the parade. The signs will be about 3x4 feet and made of light weight art board. It looks like the public address system we have used in the past is still available, however we need a vehicle to carry the generator and amp. We will have to revert to using a hand held PA system which I own. Are there any suggestions? The Rodeo Parade is on Saturday morning, June 8th, so we still have time to plan our entry. We won first place two years ago and would like to repeat this year. "Watching a parade from the sidelines is always fun, but being in one is priceless!" Helpers appreciated! Make Your Mother’s Day Gift a Force for Change From Kiwanis International: Kiwanis International’s global campaign for children, The Eliminate Project: Kiwanis eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus, aims to eliminate MNT from the face of the Earth. In partnership with UNICEF, Kiwanis is eliminating a disease that kills one baby every nine minutes. Kiwanis and UNICEF are targeting the poorest, most underserved women and children in the world, and paving the way for other interventions that will boost maternal health and child survival. The Kiwanis family is raising US$110 million by 2015. Mother’s Day comes around just once a year. For a limited time during this season (March 1 through June 15), we are offering a special giving opportunity, a way to recognize your mom, the mother of your children or any inspirational woman in your family, club or community by making a gift that matches the generous love of her heart. A gift made to The Eliminate Project through the Mother’s Day/International Women’s Day Fellowship honors a special woman, as well as the universal love mothers everywhere share with their children, by helping to eliminate the threat of maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT). When you give a Mother’s Day Zeller Fellowship, you’ll help save or protect more than 690 live from MNT. You’ll also receive a beautiful, 2013 limited-edition Mother’s Day brooch, a Zeller Fellowship medallion and a personalized certificate. You can also make a gift donation to The Eliminate Project in the name of your mother - or any person who has been an inspiration to you. Learn more at: www.TheEliminateProject.org/MothersDay For more information, contact our Project Eliminate Club Coordinator: Shirley Lalli

Raising Funds for Project Eliminate Shirley Lalli has been collecting money for Project Eliminate during our weekly meetings. Shirley also auctioned off a Lemon Merengue Pie which went to the highest bidder, Michele Hammer for $25! Lucky Michele!
