OUSTON - Easter is hopping (pun intended the Bayou City this year with two traditional f aising Hparties. Qrl Sunday, April 20, Bunnies on the Bayou Inc. hosts its 2003 Easter Event. The one-day fund-raiser is well known for raucous outdoor dancing, cranked-up disco and the festive Easter-themed ganb of those who attend to drum up support for good causes.

A separate organization and event, but also held over Easter, is Jl:lr:lgle11 Weekend, an annual circuit party powered by the Bayou City Boys CIl!lb. Jungle 11 also raises funds for Houston-area HIV and AIDS service and education providers.

Between the two events, Houstonians and visitors are sure to find Easter aOG3 a memorable one.

Bunnies on the Bayou

This year's Bunnies on the Bayou event on Sunday, April 20, is the cul- mination of more than two decades of Easter festivities among friends.

According to Bunnies organizers, it was Easter 1979 when a group of friends planned a party, and when it was a big success, decided to make the event an annual fest. Bunnies on the Bayou began to grow. In the mid 1980s, AIDS was taking a toll on gay Houstonians, and a bag of food was charged as admission to assist those in need.

Party attendance grew until a new venue was needed in the early 1990s, so the new outside plaza at the Wortham Theater downtown was chosen, and the group's name also was selected. Since then, tens of thousands of Houstonians and visitors have celebrated Easter with their friends, made new friends and helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for area charities.

This year's Bunnies Easter event is at 2 p.m. at the Wortham Center in downtown Houston. Beneficiaries are American Red Cross, Q Patrol, People With AIDS Coalition, H.A.T.C.H.
