Legislative Assembly of Goa, Daman and Diu received the Assent of the President of India on the 18th September, 1968, is hereby published for general information. Manual of Goa Laws (Vol. II) – 528 – Housing Board Act & Rules The Goa,1 Housing Board Act, 1968 (Act No 12 of 1968) [18th September, 1968] An Act to provide for the establishment of a Housing Board in the 2[State of Goa], and for matters connected therewith. Be it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of Goa, Daman and Diu in the Nineteenth Year of the Republic of India as follows: CHAPTER – I Preliminary 1. Short title, extent and commencement.— (1) This Act may be called the Goa3 Housing Board Act, 1968. (2) It extends to the whole of the [State of Goa].4 (3) It shall come into force on such date as the Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint. 2. Definitions.— In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,— (a) ‘adjoining area’ means such area as may be specified to be an adjoining area under section 29; (b) ‘appointed day’ means such date as the Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint; (c) ‘betterment charges’ means charges leviable under section 54; (d) ‘Board’ means the Goa5 Housing Board, established under this Act; (e) ‘Board premises’ means any premises belonging to or vesting in the Board or taken on lease or otherwise by the Board or entrusted to the Board under this Act for management and use for the purposes of this Act; (f) ‘building materials’ means such commodities or articles as are specified to be building materials for the purpose of this Act by notification by the Government; (g) ‘Chairman’ means the Chairman of the Board; 1 The words & letters “Daman & Diu” omitted by Amendment Act 32 of 2001. 2 For the expression “Union Territory of Goa, Daman and Diu” the expression “State of Goa” substituted by Amendment Act 32 of 2001. 3 The words “Daman & Diu” omitted by Amendment Act 32 of 2001.

The Department implements various schemes towards popularization of science, promotion of Science & Technology (S&T) projects relevant to the State, application of remote sensing technology and management of all types of wastes, generated in the State, in scientific manner. The mandate of the Department is executed through various statutory and non-statutory agencies/authorities listed below 1. Goa State Council of Science & Technology (GSCS&T). 2. Short title and commencement.— (1) This 10 Act may be called the Goa Barge (Taxation on Goods) (Amendment) Act, 2021. (2) It shall come into force at once. 2. Amendment of long title.— In the Goa, Daman and Diu Barge (Taxation on Goods) Act, 15 1985 (Act 22 of 1985) (hereinafter referred to as the “principal Act”), in the long title, for the words “Union Territory of Goa, Daman and Diu” the words “State of Goa” shall be substituted. 3. Amendment of section 1.— In section 1 of the principal Act,- 20 (i) in sub-section (1), the expression , “Daman and Diu” shall be omitted; (ii) in sub-section (2), for the words “Union Territory of Goa, Daman and Diu”, the words “State of Goa” shall be substituted. — 2 — 4. Amendment of section 2.— In section 2 of the principal Act,- (i) in clause (2) the expression , “Daman and Diu”, shall be omitted; (ii) in clause (8), for the expression “Union 5 Territory of Goa, Daman and Diu”, wherever it occurs, the expression “State of Goa” shall be substituted. 5. Amendment of Section 4.— In section 4 of the principal Act, in sub-section (1), for the words 10 “monthly return”, the words “quarterly return” shall be substituted.

Goa was ranked at the top among the States and the Union Territories on 12 key indicators relating to quality of life in the Report of National Commission on Population (2002). Goa was selected as the ‘State of the States’ in a survey conducted by the leading newsmagazine, India Today (May 2003), and ranked to be the best amongst all the States in India in the categories of Education, Health, Infrastructure and Investment. In terms of social indicators such as literacy and infant mortality rate, Goa is among the top three States in the country. Eleventh Finance Commission ranked Goa as the Best Placed State in the country in terms of infrastructure facilities. • But more important than the ranking is the fact that Goa is a unique multicultural state. The people of Goa are nice, peace loving and friendly. Different communities in Goa co-exist in complete harmony.This, combined with Goa's extraordinary natural beauty, makes it a very popular destination to visit. No wonder, 12% of the foreign tourists that visited India last year were visitors to Goa.
