WONDERFUL HAPPENINGS IN WORLD LANGUAGES! By Christie Alva, World Languages Instructional Coach ho doesn’t need to hear they are awesome and can accomplish anything they set their mind to! Come by our W Spanish classes to find students writing positive affirmations for one another. How amazing are we, producing notes of encouragement and motivation to promote a sense of school and classroom community! In our Spanish 4H classes, students internalized the positivity to complete a project base learning assignment on the incredibly challenging topic of human rights. Students had the chance to hear first hand from a special guest speaker who offered valuable information and opportunities to learn about what can be done to promote human rights around the world. Students were challenged to share what they learned and discuss their ideas with students in other classes! INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC DEPARTMENT UPCOMING CONCERTS By Michael Fisk, Instrumental Music Director his December the Tustin High School Band, Jazz Band, Orchestra, and Choir will be T performing in spirit of the holidays. The annual Winter Concert will begin at 7:00 pm on December 7th where the band, orchestra, and choir will be performing a variety of holiday pieces. At the end of the night, all three groups will come together, along with the Voices of Tustin, to play as a full symphony piece. On December 14th the annual Jingle Jazz concert will take place in the Tustin High School Cafeteria starting at 7:00 pm. The Jazz Band will be performing a variety of music, ranging from smooth and mellow songs to upbeat and energetic pieces that invite the audience to clap along and dance to the beat. On December 5th the Tustin High School Marching Band will once again, for the third year in a row, be marching at Disneyland. This year they will be marching in the main park down Main Street. The time of the parade will be announced at a later date. TUSD AND THS CELEBRATE RED RIBBON WEEK! USD will be celebrating National Red Ribbon week this coming week! Red T Ribbon week is an annual public-awareness campaign, which promotes drug -free choices and healthy lifestyles. This year, the theme is “Your Future is Key, So Stay Drug Free." At Tustin High, we believe our students have bright futures and we look for ways to propel them forward. Our teachers will incorporate mini anti-drug programs into their lesson plans and awareness activities will take place throughout the week. Students will wear red wristbands and sign drug-free pledge cards as part of our community’s commitment to a healthy, drug-free life- style. Outside of Red Ribbon week, Tustin High also participates in an “Every 15 Minutes” program and yearly drug-and-alcohol-free Grad Night celebrations. SENIORS - CLASS OF 2018 College Tip of the Week: Continue working on your applications. Be mindful of deadlines and make sure to double check that you have correctly inputted all information. All students were given a copy of their transcript to help support accuracy on the self reported academic history portion on applications. Once you submit the application, you will no long- er be able to make corrections. Remember that the deadline for UC’s and CSU’s is November 30th!

Upcoming Workshop: Did you miss this week’s workshop and still need help on the FAFSA or DREAM? Our 2nd Financial Aid Workshop will be held on November 14th at 6:00PM. Financial aid counselors from Santiago Commu- nity College will provide hands on support for you on your application. Please be sure to bring your 2016 tax information, social security numbers (if applicable), and a fully charged laptop. Come with your questions and get the sup- port you need to successfully follow through on this important step to making college happen.

Need help on applications? Come to the library during tutorials on Tuesdays and Thursdays in October. Coun- selors will be in the library to provide support on college applications, financial aid applications, and support signing up for the SAT or ACT if you still need to register for an exam.

Tutorials: Progress reports are in. If students have a “D” or “F” grade, they may have been assigned a tutorial for Tues- day or Thursday. Students should have received a print out of their schedule if a tutorial was added. But we also encour- age students to check their Aeries to determine if tutorials have been assigned. Only a satisfactory progress report dur- ing the next grading cycle will allow for a tutorial change. Remember that attending your tutorial class is mandatory. Fail- ing to attend will result in attendance “cuts” and detention hours. Make sure you attend so that you can raise your grade. If you have questions, please see your counselor.

Save the Date: Tustin Unified’s annual College and Career Fair will be held on November 6th at THS. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet admissions representatives or alumni from over 100 institutions. This event is open to all TUSD stu- dents. We hope to see Tillers well represented at this event so save the date!
