INFIELD NEWCOMERS

Although the Big Green will be welcoming only two newcomers to the infield, the pair could have an immediate impact in the lineup. Brooks’ defense also allows him to play either corner infield position. Switch hitter Jeff Onstott arrives in Hanover from Langham Creek High School in Houston, Texas, where he was a third team All-State player. In his final season, he led Langham Creek to an impressive 34-3 record. Onstott has the ability to play both middle infield positions and can also see time at third base.

OUTFIELD

The Big Green possess two of the top outfielders in the Ivy League as senior captain Damon Wright and sophomore Nick Santomauro return for the 2008 season. Wright, a second team All-Ivy selection for the Big Green, was third on the team with a .303 average. He was second on the team in runs bat- ted in with 22. Red Rolfe Field Red Rolfe Field, the home of Dartmouth baseball for close to a century, will be undergoing a major renova- tion following the completion of the 2008 season. Included in the project will be the installation of FieldTurf on the playing surface, stadium-style seat- ing for fans, a new outfield wall, as well as construc- tion of new dugouts, bullpens, and scoreboard. The field was formally named in honor of Rob- ert A. “Red” Rolfe ’31 in 1971. Rolfe was an outstand- ing player who went on to earn fame with the New York Yankees as a third baseman. After 10 years with the Yankees and four more with the Detroit Tigers, he returned to Hanover to become Director of Athletics from 1954-67.

Floren Varsity House The Big Green baseball team has begun utilizing a state-of-the-art varsity strength training center in the recently completed Floren Varsity House. The versatile new building was made possible by a $10 million dollar leadership gift from Olivia and Doug Floren ’63 of Greenwich, Conn. and their family. The new 10,000 square foot strength center in the Flo- ren Varsity House will allow student-athletes to undergo effective strength, power, plyometric, agility, flexibility and condition programs under the supervisions of the Holekamp Family strength and conditioning coach Bob Miller. The Varsity Strength Training Center benefits all of Dartmouth’s 34 varsity sports.

Leverone Field House Regarded as one of the premier indoor facilities on the East Coast, Leverone Field House provides the Big Green with two acres of indoor artificial turf for a practice area. Equipped with two full length batting cages and pitching mounds, the Field House boasts a top-notch lighting system, mechanical curtains, as well as an advanced sound system. After its original construction in 1962, the Field House has undergone several renovations, the latest coming in 2001 at an approximate cost of $5 million dollars. The Big Green holds its winter practices at the Field House, which includes two permanent bat- ting cages and pitching mounds.
