Chapter 6 Existing Environment THE PROPOSED PAN ISLAND LINK 1 HIGHWAY PROJECT, PENANG CHAPTER 6 EXISTING ENVIRONMENT 6.0 INTRODUCTION This section describes the condition of the existing environment in the study area which includes the physical, biological and socio-economic environment. The description of the existing environment is based on field surveys and review of existing literature related to the study area sourced from published reports. 6.1 PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT 6.1.1 Topography The topography of the study area is illustrated in Figure 6.1.1. The highest contour in the project site is 440 m and the lowest is 1 m above the Mean Sea Level (MSL). The height of the proposed new highway alignment will gradually increase as it approaches the island center. Figure 6.1.2 (a) and (b) shows the elevation. The description of the road alignment is divided into 3 sections (Table 6.1.1). Section 1 starts from the low area at Gurney Drive (1-2 m above MSL) and gradually increase as it traverses towards Youth Park (50 m above MSL). Section 2 which starts from Youth Park to Sg. Ara traverses over the hilly areas, valleys, and foothills. There are four (4) hilly areas where tunnels will be constructed. Tunnel 1 and Tunnel 3 will pass through highland areas where the maximum elevation is 290m and 440m above the MSL respectively. There are two (2) viaducts sections at Air Itam and Paya Terubong. The Air Itam area (between Tunnel 1 and Tunnel 2) has elevations ranging from 60-137m above the MSL. For Paya Terubong area, the elevation is about 43-78m. The embankments section near Relau area is at an elevation of 83-139m. The elevation in Section 3 is about 72m after the exit of Tunnel 4 and gradually reduces as the alignment goes along the river reserve (Sg. Ara and Sg. Kluang) to the Tun Dr. LCE Expressway (1 m above the MSL). 6 - 1 THE PROPOSED PAN ISLAND LINK 1 HIGHWAY PROJECT, PENANG Table 6.1.1. Based on slope analysis (Table 6.1.2), 61.7% of the area is classified as Class 1 which is predominant in Section 1 and Section 3. For Section 2, there is a mix of Class category since the area consists of a mixed elevation hilly area. Most of the slopes fall under Class 2 (20.9%) and Class 3 (14.3%). No surface construction works will be carried out on slopes of more than 35° (Class 4). Table 6.1.2. The granite rock occupies the high terrain area in the centre of the island and sealine. Granitic rocks are classified into two major plutons i.e the North Penang pluton and South Penang pluton (Ong Wee Seck, 1993), as published by the Minerals and Geoscience Department of Malaysia (JMG, Formerly known as the Geological Department of Malaysia). Tan Bong Kong (1994) divided granitic rocks in Penang into Type 1-Sungai Ara Type and Type II- Bukit Bendera Type. However, for the purpose of this report, the classification by JMG is used. This classification is based on differences in age, mineralogy and texture of the granites. The North Penang pluton is of Triassic age, does not contain primary muscovite and is coarse grain. The South Penang pluton is of late Carboniferus to early Permian age, contains primary muscovite and medium grain matrix size.

  • Pulau Pinang Bandar Percetakan a W Al Negara
PULAU PINANG BANDAR PERCETAKAN A W AL NEGARA OLEH DR. Bone. Selepas A.B.

Vervea and Vertu Resort are 89% and 71% sold respectively. (i) With sales of 91% achieved, there are approximately 110-120 units left at TRI PINNACLE. What are management’s plans for the remaining units of TRI PINNACLE? The TOP for the project was obtained in December 2018. (ii) Can management confirm that it is the group’s strategy to sell the units in commercial developments (for example, Vervea) and thus it would not be building up an investment portfolio for recurring income at this stage of the group’s growth? It was stated the group envisioned the investments in Aloft Hotel, the Regional Integrated Shopping Centre and the Shah Alam Integrated Logistics Hub would contribute to its recurring income in years to come.

  • Architectural Styles of Malaysian Mosque: Suitability in Compact Urban Settings
MATEC Web of Conferences 266, 06001 (2019) https://doi.org/10.1051/matecconf/2019 26606001 IConBEE2018 Architectural Styles of Malaysian Mosque: Suitability In Compact Urban Settings Nayeem Asif1,*, Nangkula Utaberta1 and Arman Sarram1 1Universiti Putra Malaysia Abstract. The concept of urban mosque stems from more extensive reasons that mostly come from the overall issues of industrialization. Considering the challenges related to rapid urban growth, public institutions, such as mosque and its compatibility is required to be assessed in the context of compact cities. This study, therefore, aims to evaluate the planning and layout of six different styles of mosque in Malaysia regarding their suitability in compact urban settings. Due to its genre, the study adopts a case study as a qualitative research strategy as its research method. Content analysis is conducted on the compiled literature to indicate the expected outcome. Following a brief comparative discussion, this paper shows that mosque with modern architectural style among all six typologies is most suitable in the context of compact urban settings. Factors considered for the evaluation of mosques include layout progression of the mosque whether horizontal or vertical, provision for vertical stacking of spaces, symmetry in topology as well as in elevation and space types regarding flexible usage. The scope of this paper is limited to the assessment of literature only, which opens the window for a further in-depth study of actual case studies related to this topic. 1 Introduction solving social problems and develop a more integrated community[5] Mosque acts as the most significant institution for the Modern society issues are varied and complex; urban Muslims as a nucleus of a globally united community.
