Implementation and Integration of Regional Health Care Data Networks in the Hellenic National Health Service
JOURNAL OF MEDICAL INTERNET RESEARCH Lampsas et al Original Paper Implementation and Integration of Regional Health Care Data Networks in the Hellenic National Health Service Petros Lampsas1, PhD; Ioannis Vidalis2; Christos Papanikolaou2; Aristides Vagelatos2, PhD 1University of Thessaly, Computer and Communications Engineering Department, Volos, Greece 2Research Academic Computer Technology Institute, Department of IT Projects for the Public Sector, Athens, Greece Corresponding Author: Petros Lampsas, PhD University of Thessaly Glavani 37 & 28is Oktovriou Greece Phone: +30 977 350597 Email: [email protected] Abstract Background: Modern health care is provided with close cooperation among many different institutions and professionals, using their specialized expertise in a common effort to deliver best-quality and, at the same time, cost-effective services. Within this context of the growing need for information exchange, the demand for realization of data networks interconnecting various health care institutions at a regional level, as well as a national level, has become a practical necessity. Objectives: To present the technical solution that is under consideration for implementing and interconnecting regional health care data networks in the Hellenic National Health System. Methods: The most critical requirements for deploying such a regional health care data network were identified as: fast implementation, security, quality of service, availability, performance, and technical support. Results: The solution proposed is the use of proper virtual private network technologies for implementing functionally-interconnected regional health care data networks. Conclusions: The regional health care data network is considered to be a critical infrastructure for further development and penetration of information and communication technologies in the Hellenic National Health System. Therefore, a technical approach was planned, in order to have a fast cost-effective implementation, conforming to certain specifications. -

Curating Resistances Crisis and the limits of the political turn in contemporary art biennials Panos Kompatsiaris PhD in Art University of Edinburgh 2015 ii Declaration This is to certify that that the work contained within has been composed by me and is entirely my own work. No part of this thesis has been submitted for any other degree or professional qualification. Signed _____________________________________________________________ Panos Kompatsiaris iii iv Abstract Curating Resistances focuses upon the socially interventionist and activist agendas of two contemporary art biennials in Europe during and in response to the current economic crisis. This thesis seeks to untangle their tensions, conflicts and intimate socialities as they evolve against the backdrop of neoliberalism, austerity, crisis and the rise of Occupy cultures. Drawing upon primary ethnographic research on the 3rd Athens Biennale (2011) and the 7th Berlin Biennale (2012), as well as on the examination of curatorial, journalistic and archival documents, I argue for an approach that takes into consideration the threefold nature of these sites, as institutions, organizations and events. -

Reduce Noise to Improve Life Euronoise 2018 Conference Crete, Greece, May 28–31, 2018 Programme b Preface Dear Colleagues, “Reduce Noise to Improve Life” is the moto of Euronoise 2018, the 11th European Congress and Exposition on Noise Control Engineering, to be held in Crete between 27 and 31 of May 2018. Acousticians and noise experts from all over the World are gathering in Crete to discuss recent research outcome and innovations in noise pollution, noise and vibration control, soundscape, and many related topics. Acousticians and especially those involved in noise issues are well aware of the fact that we, as scientists, have to provide our skills in order to make the life of the people more comfortable and healthy, to protect the environment from any man-made invader that threatens its quality through our uncontrollable technological products, which might make our everyday life easier but sometimes not better. Of course, sound is also the means of human communication and the soundscapes that characterize our life are full of sounds. The pursuit of the proper equilibrium between sounds and unwanted noise is our goal and we are obliged to combine our forces to achieve it. Euronoise is one of the main conferences organized by the European Acoustics Association (EAA), an association gathering 33 national acoustic societies from all over Europe. EAA is very sensitive to noise issues and their initiative to promote the Noise Awareness Day last year, resulted in the coordination of pan-european events dedicated to the raising of awareness among young people and triggered official discussions in the European Commission about the existing legislation in Europe on noise control. -
