Jose Fermin opened the game with a solo homer on the first pitch of the night by Hot Rods starter Easton McGee, but Bowling Green responded with six runs in the Midwest League • Overall bottom of the first against Luis Oviedo. Connor Hollis and Chris Betts led the Bowling Green offense. Hollis had a 3-for-5 night that included a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Betts hit a three-run homer in the first and went 2-for-5 with four RBI and three runs. Will Eastern Division W L GB Benson hit a two-run homer for Lake County in the loss. Oviedo took the loss after lasting just 2/3 of an inning and allowing six runs on three hits and three walks. McGee picked up the win after surrendering three runs over five innings. LAKE COUNTY (INDIANS) 7 4 -- RUNNING WILD: The Captains are tied with the Hagerstown Suns (Low-A; Nationals) for the most steals in all of Low-A baseball with 20. Lake County has only been caught stealing twice and was successful in each of its 18 attempts. The Captains have stolen a base in all but Fort Wayne (Padres) 7 5 0.5 two games this year (4/12 at DAY & 4/15 at BG). SS/2B Tyler Freeman, OF Hosea Nelson and OF/1B Mitch Reeves were all named New York-Penn League All-Stars last year, as members of the Indians’ Short-Season affiliate, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers. Cedar Rapids (Twins) 4 8 4.0 CARLIN RETURNS: Luke Carlin is back for his second straight season as Captains Manager, becoming the first skipper since Ted Kubiak @-1st Half Title $-2nd Half Title %-1st-half Wild Card *-2nd-half Wild Card in 2010-11 to spend multiple seasons in Lake County. Between Kubiak’s 2011 campaign and Carlin’s Captains debut last year, the Captains had a new manager every year for seven straight years. Carlin is now the fourth manager in Captains history to lead the team for multiple seasons, joining Kubiak, Aaron Holbert (2008-09) and Luis Rivera (2003-04). In his first year at the helm, Carlin led Lake County to a 60-79 record. ALUMNI ON THE BENCH: Captains Pitching Coach Owen Dew and Bench Coach Jordan Smith both played for Lake County before Captains Contacts beginning their coaching careers. Dew pitched for the Captains in 2010 and 2011, and was part of Lake County’s lone championship squad in 2010. His playing career ended after 2013, due to an elbow injury. He played in the Indians’ organization through the 2017 season, reaching as high as Triple-A. The lefty pitched 5.1 innings and allowed just one run on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk. After five scoreless innings, Bowling Green scored its first and only run of the game on an RBI single by Grant Witherspoon that scored Connor Hollis, who had led off the inning with a triple. The Captains won, 2-1. 2018: Burgos made his pro debut in the Arizona League and helped pitch the team to the playoffs with a 3-2 record and a 3.78 ERA across eight starts and four relief outings. He also got the ball in the playoffs and tossed 5.2 innings, striking out 10 and allowing one run on two hits and one walk.
