Location Information

The City: This year’s conference location Ludwigsburg is situated in Baden-Württemberg – not far from Stuttgart. Baden-Württemberg is one of the largest tourist states in Germany. It is located in the very heart of Europe and is just as famous for its delicious cooking as for being the industrial home of globally renowned companies such as Daimler, Bosch, , Boss, SAP, and Zeiss.

Duke Eberhard Ludwig, who founded Ludwigsburg in 1709, once said: “There are already more than enough boring towns.” With Ludwigsburg he wanted to create a completely new town – and so he did. Ludwigsburg has a lot to offer.

Ludwigsburg can be reached by and train, the closest airport is the international airport of Stuttgart, which can be reached via the S-Bahn. If you are arriving by car please note that Ludwigsburg is an environmental zone, which requires the environmental badge in green or yellow.

The Congress Center - Forum am Schlosspark: The conference center is in the heart of Ludwigsburg and offers many suitable session rooms and a large foyer for our partner exhibition. For more information about the “Forum am Schlosspark” please visit: www.forum.ludwigsburg.de.

To Altair’s 3rd European HYPERWORKS TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE 2009

Dear Customer and valued Partner,

I am pleased to invite you to the 3rd European HyperWorks Technology Conference (EHTC), which will take place in Ludwigsburg, Germany from November 2nd - 4th, 2009.

The highly successful European HTC events have shown us that we have to further build on the

tradition of Enterprise Simulation events in Europe. We have seen that due to the demand for CO2 reduction, lightweight design resonates very well with our customers. In addition, there is a gro- wing need to cut CAE expenditure, a challenge which can be met by harmonizing the preferred software toolset with HyperWorks' flexible licensing system in conjunction with our partner program.

HyperMesh and our EPM services remain highly attractive to increase productivity and Altair's "With the EHTC’07 Altair had solvers, which are delivering more robust results, receive growing attention. The conferences will bring together product design. I am definitely leading engineers and engineering managers from various industries with a common interest in looking forward to participating in engineering simulation and innovation. Altair and our large partner community, many of which next year's EHTC." will exhibit their solutions at our Technical Showcase, will make sure that the EHTC in Ludwigsburg will again be an unforgettable event for all attendees. Anthony Hähnel, Renault

I look forward to seeing you in Ludwigsburg

HYPERWORKS TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE 2009 3 Invitation

To Altair’s 3rd European HYPERWORKS TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE 2009

Workshops November 2nd, 2009

The 2009 conference workshops will cover relevant industry topics and highlight customer case studies in each area. The workshop sessions will be given by Altair experts and the case studies will be presented by Altair's industry customers.

Workshop 1: Robust Crash Analysis Virtual crash testing has become an integral part of the vehicle development process. Since critical design decisions rely on these crash analyses it is essential that the simulation results are available on- time and are robust with respect to the simulation model, different versions of the crash software, and the compute environment (number of cores, hardware type). This workshop will summarize Altair’s experience in this field supplemented by contributions from industry experts. "The European HyperWorks Tech- nology Conference was very Workshop topics: valuable for FLUIDON . We could • Crash robustness – Sensibility analysis on crash boxes and full car models exhibit our solutions to the right • Guidelines to build robust crash models audience, made interesting new • PSA validation process applied to new releases of RADIOSS (quality ranging) contacts and had lively • Scalability and performance covering AMS, Dynamic compensation, Hybrid version discussions with the attendees. • Industrial application of the multi-domain at Ford Germany We are already planning our • Frontal crash simulation in less than 5 minutes exhibition at next year's EHTC in Ludwigsburg." The main presenter will be Francis Arnaudeau, Altair’s CTO FE-Solvers, who has more than 25 years experience in robust crash analysis. Heiko Baum, Managing Director, FLUIDON GmbH Workshop 2: Best Practice in Switching FE-Solvers Although RADIOSS is offering clear financial and technical advantages, some companies still hesitate to replace their legacy FE-solver referring to difficulties in changing existing processes and unknown transition efforts. In this workshop you will learn how companies like Bombardier Transportation, Fiat Powertrain, and replaced their legacy FE-solver, what obstacles they had to overcome, and the benefits they obtained.

Workshop topics: • Overview of RADIOSS capabilities for implicit analysis • How to run a Solver benchmark? • How to switch to RADIOSS? • Application examples

The main presenter will be Dennis Schwerzler, who initiated and managed the Nastran Replacement with RADIOSS at General Motors. In order to adjust the presentation to the particular needs of the workshop participants, attendees are invited to submit their Nastran models prior to the workshop.

Workshop 3: Accelerating Turbo Machinery Development Turbo machinery industry is one of the fastest growing markets for Altair. Due to the potential of drasti- cally reducing development cycles, companies such as General Electric and Pratt&Witney are increa- singly adopting HyperWorks and in particular HyperMesh.

Workshop topics: • Efficient generation and parameterization of complex 3D-FE models through advanced meshing and morphing technology • Common platform for structures and aerodynamics including seamless mapping of loads • Customizable environment to build complete CAE processes integrating different commercial solvers with in-house codes • Applications of optimization technologies

Professor JS Rao, Altair's Chief Science Officer, will be the main presenter. He will combine his lifelong experience in the turbo machinery industry with examples of jet engines and power generation turbines from companies like General Electric, Siemens and others.

Workshop fee 200 Euro pp. Sign up for the workshops at www.altairhtc.com/europe. 4 HYPERWORKS TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE 2009 Invitation
