Create a revolving lending program that provides interim financing, so that money continues to be available when it’s needed most. In 2013, $17.8 million from the Rogers Telefund helped 27 productions keep the cameras rolling, including Rise of the eSports Hero, shortlisted for an international IMPACT award, and perennial favourite Ice Pilots NWT.

24 Rogers documentary fund theatrical documentary Program

In partnership with Telefilm Canada, the Theatrical Documentary Program provides financing to feature- length documentaries destined for the big screen. In 2013, we invested $500,000 in five stellar productions that take viewers from the frontlines of war zones in Entre la paix et la guerre to the world of cyberspace espionage in Black Code. Le paradoxe de la faim investigates the inexcusable fact that billions of farmers in developing countries go to bed hungry each night, while One Sweet Film exposes the sour side of the multi-billion-dollar sugar industry. And for something a little lighter, The Devil’s Horn offers up a playful take on the history and “curse” of the saxophone.

In a game-changing deal announced last fall, Rogers has secured national broadcast rights to NHL hockey. Covering all platforms and all languages, the agreement gives Rogers exclusive rights to Canada’s favourite pro sports league for the next 12 years.

Anchoring that coverage is an all-star lineup: award-winning host Ron MacLean, veteran sportcasters score! Daren Millard and Jeff Marek, plus the ever-opinionated Don Cherry in Coach’s Corner. And in a headline-grabbing coup, George Stroumboulopoulos will bring his distinctive brand of hip to Hockey Night in Canada.

More hockey, more channels and more on-air talent. For fans — and for Rogers — it’s a winning combo.
