Join us in congratulating Africa Humanitarian Action’s Founding President, Dr. Dawit Zawde, recipient of the Henry Davison Award, 2013.

Dr. Zawde, former President of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society, was recognized by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) for “his significant work in responding to the Ethiopian famine and - in the face of that challenge - building a strong and well respected National Society that endures to this day”.

The Henry Davison Award is given to outstanding individuals or National Societies at the IFRC General Assembly. This year it was awarded to five people who have been instrumental in the response to some of the most challenging emergencies of recent decades.

Along with Dr. Dawit Zawde, Dr. Mohammed Al-Hadid, President of the Jordan National Red Crescent Society; George Weber, Former Secretary General of the IFRC and the Society; Phan Wannamethee, Secretary General of the Thai Red Cross Society; and Dr. Wolfgang Kopetzky, Special Envoy of the President of the are recipients of the 2013 Henry Davison Award.

The award ceremony was held on 15 November 2013 in Sydney, Australia.
