Following the death earlier this year of Anthony Kendall, and the resignation in July 2020 of Michael Pickthall for personal reasons, the Parish Council has a vacancy for two Parish Councillors.

The Parish Council is looking for suitably qualified and talented local people to fill these vacancies by co-opting new members without the need for a local election. Do you have skills and knowledge that could help our local community? Or just an interest in village life. lf so, you may be just the type of person we need.

Please contact the Chairman (Stephen Haymes) on 01243 551475 or the Clerk of the Council (Andrew Gardiner) on 01243 859141 or by e-mail; Clerk@ yaptonpc.gov.uk if you need more information or wish to discuss the co-option process.

Please see the Parish Council’s website for details on how to apply and for an Application Form which can be downloaded for completion and return to the Clerk by the closing date for receipt of applications of the 23rd October 2020.

Interviews for prospective candidates are likely to be held by the full Parish Council at a special evening meeting in the week commencing 2nd November 2020.

The mixed game slowly lost popularity and Bilsham disbanded after twenty years but not before winning the League on one occasion. The Ladies League is still well supported. By comparison, Cricket in Yapton has had a chequered existence. Since 1945, and probably much earlier, a cricket XI played on the Playing field with many of the familiar village names in the batting and bowling line ups. The Club folded sometime during the 1960’s only to be resurrected again in the 1970’s. But this resurgence was relatively short lived as it folded again around 1990. For many years the sports people had the very basic changing facilities either in the Village Hall (now the Co-op) or the Youth Centre (now The Villages Children and Family Centre). The lack of proper facilities prevented the football clubs from advancing to the higher levels of the West Sussex League, so all the sports clubs raised funds to provide a Sports Pavilion on the field which they could be proud of. The placing of contracts for the building was imminent when the Village Hall Committee decided to sell the old village hall and have a new one built on the playing field. The funds raised by the sports clubs were placed at the village hall’s disposal and the new hall erected
