SYLVIA SIDNEY TO APPEAR AT FILM EVENT AT THE MUSEUM OF MODERN ART
The distinguished stage and screen actress Sylvia Sidney will
be the guest of honor at The Museum of Modern Art on Tuesday, June
12th at 8:00 p.m., for a special program in tribute to her remarkable
contribution to the art of the American screen. A rare Technicolor
print from the Department of Film's archives of her 1936 film
"The Trail of the Lonesome Pine" will be shown in its entirety, after
which Miss Sidney will discuss the film in a question-and-answer
session with the audience.
Miss Sidney's appearance is one of a series of special events
for Museum members being organized this year by the Department of
Film and the Membership Department in commemoration of the Fiftieth
Anniversary of The Museum of Modern Art. Each of these evenings
highlights important films from the collection of the Department
of Film, while honoring the artists on both sides of the camera
who created these works. The first program in this series was a
recent homage to the late Jean Renoir, in which his film "The Golden
Coach" was presented, introduced by critic Roger Greenspun.
