OFFENSE FROM THE DEFENSE The Penguins got goals from defensemen Cody Ceci and Mike Matheson on Tuesday night, as Pittsburgh has seen an uptick in scoring from their defensemen lately. ON A HOT STREAK Pittsburgh has been quietly winning at a consistent rate over the last month or so, putting together a 7-3-0 record over its last 10 games dating back to Feb. 11. Pittsburgh’s seven wins during that span are tied with the and for second in the NHL, trailing only the (8).

During that span, Pittsburgh’s 31 goals are tied for seventh-most in the league, while only allowing 2.60 goals-against per game, the 10th-lowest figure in the NHL.

Kris Letang has led the way for the Penguins during their hot streak, recording a team-high 11 points (4G-7A) which includes three multi-point performances.

PENALTY-KILLIN’ IT Pittsburgh’s penalty killing unit has been solid at home, successfully killing off 86.7% of opposing power-play opportunities (26-for-30), a figure that is tied for seventh-best in the NHL. Only the (2), New York Islanders (2) and Bruins (3) have allowed fewer power-play goals against at home this season than Pittsburgh’s four.

The Penguins penalty killing units have successfully killed off 15 of their last 16 opposing power-play opportunities (93.8%) dating back to Feb. 14 against Washington.

BRICK WALL Goaltender Tristan Jarry was exceptional on Tuesday night against the Flyers, turning aside 40 of 42 shots (.952) in Pittsburgh’s win. After dropping five of his first seven starts this year, Jarry has rounded into form, going 6-2-0 over his last eight starts dating back to Feb. 14 against Washington.

During that span, Jarry’s six wins are most in the NHL, while his 2.36 goals-against average is 10th best, and his .928 save percentage ranks fourth in the league (min. 5 starts).

Here at home, Jarry is 6-1-0 with a 2.27 goals-against average and .924 save percentage in 2020-21.

Vigneault led the Flyers to one of the NHL’s best turnarounds in 2019-20.
