G-FORCE: THE CHARACTER AND MINI-SERIES
The following document comprises some of the material created for the little-known Marvel UK character G-FORCE, whose only published appearance I’m aware of was in a two-part mini series I wrote which was drawn by John Royle and inked by Tim Perkins

I have included a plotline for that story in the document below, but note that this may differ from the final script as I am unsure of when I wrote the document during the comic’s production cycle.

The intention was for the Knights of Pendragon cameo to provide a springboard for another series, Armageddon Knights, pitched to Paul Neary in September 1993.
Also included is a two-page G-FORCE ‘Primer’ script written for inclusion in Overkill. A number of these ‘primers’ were commissioned for OVERKILL but as far as I am aware none were published (I also have one for SHADOW RIDERS).
I have resisted the temptation to re-write the script looking back from 2013 and groaning at the naivety of the scripting. Please view it with rose-tinted glasses!

G-FORCE
The Character Professor Daniel Jones is transformed by unknown powers whilst exploring the superstring and no-space between wormholes, giving him control over gravitational forces that respond to his emotional state. Unless he can learn to control or balance his feelings, he will become either one of Earth's greatest heroes... or one of its worst enemies!
Personality A clinical scientist with his mind on his latest experiment rather than day to day life, Jones would be happier in his laboratory rather than dealing with the problems that result form his new-found powers. Bottled-up feelings about the world and those around him could prove his undoing. The only person in the world he has any true feelings for is his teenage daughter, Anna.
Background Born in Britain, Jones is the son of relatively well-to-do parents (now dead, much to his regret) who ensured his education was the best they could afford once they realised his intelligence and passion for the sciences. Graduating from Harvard, he has since attained a variety of degrees both in the United States and Britain, his second home. His knowledge of Quantum Mechanics and unique exploration of universal forces such as gravity and super string theory found him much in demand as a theoretical and practical consultant to various laboratories across the world; who he works for without much concern for the people who own them. Jones has rubbed shoulders with some of the greatest minds in the Marvel Universe, including Tony Stark, Doctor Banner and particularly, Reed Richards. Married twice, he has a daughter by the second union. His first wife, Una still loves him passionately and, the daughter of a wealthy financier, has ensured he his experiments are well funded. However, the love is not reciprocated. Jones feels uncomfortable in the face of it and tries to avoid face to face meetings with Una (now married to industrialist Randulph Spears, corporate head of the Nakasoni Corporation owned by MyS-TECH) wherever possible. Una's only regret is that the two never had a child; whereas his second wife, Margaret, only regrets they had one at all. Married for three years, both scientists, they split more from differences over their respective scientific fields rather than any personality clash. Margaret resents what she sees as Daniel's freedom while she had Anna and constantly sought to escape the marriage. Anna now lives with her father in his rambling home in the Peak District.
How he got his powers Jones' pursuit of knowledge in his respective feeling proved his undoing; he was approached to investigate super strings first hand by MyS-TECH, exploring the space-time corridors between wormholes when Warheads force them open, creating a miniature black hole. MyS-TECH gave him a set of armour enabling to survive inside the super string, built of some of the strongest metals known to humankind and itself worth a small fortune. Unfortunately, he reckoned without a little known side-effect of the opening of the wormholes, and is still unaware of what really happened in the no-space where he gained his powers. Essentially, opening a black hole creates a 'Big Bang' of its own and another universe, small at first. Its growth is variable; and for the Warheads who normally pass straight through the super string connecting the two wormholes, they never realise what has happened. However, for Jones, staying inside the tunnel to analyse its nature in the hope of artificially duplicating natural wormholes (and, ultimately, making them directional) he is in the corridor long enough for his psyche to affect this new universe around him. (The Warheads who travel through the corridor have a minor effect which will grow as the passage of time continues, but that's another story entirely!). Essentially, this universe is created as a reflection of the best and worst aspects of himself, drawing on his fears and hopes. Whilst in the corridor, Jones was attacked by Die-Cut at the direction of an ancient device built by the Cyberdrones. Thrown out of the superstring and into the New Universe mentioned above, it adapted and changed the core of his being to faster facilitate the creation of what it perceives as an ideal universe for him - his mind literally the template for this new universe with its own set of physical laws. He's transformed; subconsciously accelerating the growing distortion of space-time utilising the force of gravity, without knowing why or how. At this point, things start to go horribly wrong.
Battling the Cyberdrones on their way to Earth, G-Force defeated them using the knowledge gleaned from Die-Cut during a forced melding of minds. He was left for dead.
Some aspects of this new universe would rather destroy their creator than become part of a coherent whole and prepared to attack Jones as he was comatose. The Time Guardian, aware of what would and has happened to him in this new universe, projected him into the Green Chapel, to be helped by his old friend Peter Hunter, aka Albion. After a battle, he then returned to Earth, which is where his problems really begin...
Motivation Jones at first resents these powers and the prospect of being treated like a super-hero; but an early encounter with the Pendragons convinces him that a balance might just be possible. In addition, he'll have to use his powers to find out how and which emotions in particular affect them, partly out of his own scientific curiosity; and also to protect the daughter he loves when she is kidnapped. He must also learn more about his powers and how they're connected to his subconscious... At first, therefore he seeks to (wrongly) control his emotions, shutting them down for fear of doing damage to someone or something. (Imagine the dangers attached to hating someone you loved with the innate abilities he's gained!). Only by finding true balance in his nature will he resolve the dangers he presents to the world. Ultimately, he'll also be out to balance the new universe he has created in the same way, which has been polluted by the same evils (which start to threaten our world) that he possesses and which he has to come to terms with if it is to survive. Given the worry about portraying a character as 'god', I suggest that there is some sort of dimensional-faring race that has been populating these new universes for years and settle in his, only to be attacked by quite powerful enemies; and they seek his help to deal with them. To control his powers, Jones has to learn to achieve the state of mind a strong emotion put him in while remaining calm and in control -- the strong emotion is what triggered (and would still trigger) the space-time distortion effect he wants to achieve again, but was out of his control the first time it manifested itself.1
Powers Jones powers range from the localised distortion of space-time, acting as a gravity lens, to a wider range of powers that he himself has yet to develop. A universal power would be his ability to certainly re-enter the universe he himself created, and perhaps also open other wormholes far more easily than MyS-TECH currently can... a useful escape route but again a bit of a Russian Roulette last stand tactic! When he's in his private universe the first time, he'll have a multiple choice of wormhole exit points because of the sheer number of mini black holes he's created with the Big Bang he's inadvertently set off... effectively his subconscious has complete free choice of where he's going to end up but because of the state he's in it plumps for what it regards as the safest place in the universe - which is where the young him felt safest... in Jones case a private hideaway a little away from home or a favourite spot that only he could get into in the childhood home.... now of course the middle of an inter state. Now in our universe he could create a mini black hole wherever one can occur, i.e. at wormhole location points. If he does it where he did before it'll go to the same place always, i.e. his own pocket universe. If he does go through a new one then, like the Warheads, he's no idea where he'll end up, but he could come out of the same wormhole later on... if he hasn't lost it! (There's a chance he'll go out of the super string corridor and not be able to find the same one again).
As mentioned above, his powers are initiated by his emotional state at the time; what Jones seeks to do is duplicate that emotional state and recreate the power he displays. These at first include:
1) Brought on first by despair at the thought of immenent death, laser beams would dissipate around him. (Dispersing lens rather than focussing lens). Also anyone pushing against him would be able to move him easily - a null gravity situation, as the universe is ignoring him gravitationaly speaking.
2) Brought on by fear, he displaces his centre of emotion within him (I'm going to assume the Eastern philosophy here, that it's within his torso, not his head) towards the thing he's afraid of. By doing this he displaces the centre of gravity, perhaps below him and enabling him to pass through the floor (second time round). The first time he passes through a floor, having made himself super heavy, he doesn't know to do that (consciously or subconsciously) and will damage his feet and his legs severely causing him great pain... therefore, second time round the fear of the pain cause the displacement beneath him of the focus.
1 His control could be further complicated by damage he first received in battle with the entity in the new universe and the ensuing battle with the Fantastic Four in Los Angeles; weaknesses in the armour maintaining his body that Reed Richards sought to seal but was only partially successful. If these are damaged again, it may cause him to dissipate completely and vanish from this universe forever... He needs to find a way to surmount this problem if he is to survive. In addition, using too much power (i.e. the more complicated abilities he learns he possesses) may use up power too quickly, limiting use of such skills.
Being super heavy and immovable does not make him invulnerable and without his armour (see below) being thumped is going to hurt a lot!
3) Stubborn to the last, Jones can become super-heavy and immovable. A side effect of this is his ability to make himself erratically invisible to others, seeming to shimmer and vanish as light waves bend around him. As a gravity leans, it's only perfect invisibility when the observer is at the focal distance and he doesn't yet have that conscious control. He is still able to be hurt by a thrown punch or projectile in this state but he can't be moved. He could also of course adapt this to drop downwards through a floor in this state. His armour should protect him from some ill effects. Later, he could make things ahead of him super-heavy, causing them to implode. Alternatively he could hit people with their being extra-heavy very quickly, giving them intense and sudden vertigo.
4) Anger would prove negative and very explosive, perhaps enabling him to hit things very hard at a distance or put very terrifying force behind a punch. And also displace a focus to the object of his anger, making everything not nailed down rush towards that focus -- or an attacker-- if he got angry with a loved one (such as his daughter) would be really scary!
Future powers to discover... Euphoria: Anti-gravity... but not directed flight. Need to duplicate the feelings of hate or desire to do this. Projected euphoria would of course make them light-headed (and everything else).
Rejection: push things away, diverting bullets and projectile weapons (Coriolis force)
Hatred: directed flight, see above.
Loathing: combining rejection and fear, this combines pushing something away and displacing the gravity focus away from him towards the object of his loathing.
Envy:
Jealousy: see below.
Greed: see below.
Desire: attraction, drawing things towards him. If with love, then gently. If with greed or jealousy then violently.
Weaknesses... Love of course would be one of his main weaknesses, particularly around his daughter; making him pretty vulnerable... Uncertainty and confusion too would make him "un-super" and in this state his energy levels would drain pretty fast.
In addition we have the unresolved problem of the warring aspects of his own universe, reflected in his own search to control his emotions and make himself 'safe' for the world. The situations in this universe, which would prove I imagine a very addictive place to visit since it represents him, is further complicated by the growing creations let on its outskirts by the psyches of the Warheads that passed through it at its inception.
Once he is both intellectually and emotionally convinced by someone (an eastern sage/holy man/magician) that there isn't a problem with his nature and that conquering part of what is essentially himself isn't the way to help himself he will be 'cureable' -- but first he has to face up to his monsters, his fears and acept them. Then he wil indeed be cured... unfortunately. He will lose the subconscious ability to generate space-time (gravity) distortions. However, the products of his fear in his pocket universe (see above) that have come through to this (and those that haven't, and the ones he may have pushed into other pocket universes, when he didn't know what they were) will still have their powers until confronted and accepted by him wholeheartedly ("surrender to them") as essential (and desirable?) parts of himself. Once he is in voluntary control of his power, eh wil discover he can do new things by experiment. But until he has accepted those things back into him he won't be able to. And once he's sane, but before he's accepted any of the things back into him, he may not be able to use many of his powers without the "batteries" the monsters reperesent to make them work.
Armour An advanced combination of dense metals (some of them produced from materials brought back by the Warheads) , further augmented by coatings of advanced form of "Teflon" which enable him to avoid surface abrasions whilst dropping through floors, walls etc. using gravity displacement. The armour is 'broken' in three places... on the wrists, above the heart, leading to 'seepage' from the armour's built-in anti gravity system. This seepage is low-level -- he'd like to fis it but he can't because he can't use MyS-TECH facillities. Low risk to keep it as it is but possibilty it is in some way affecting what he's trying to do with his own power.
The armour is by no mean perfect - the mission that went "wrong" was the first time Jones used it. It did let him stay inside the super string - "unfortunately" (for him) it also let him go sideways out of the superstring. The armour is damaged in doing this because it wasn't designed for such treatment.
The helmet should contain a targeting system perhaps of his own design using Fantastic Four technology, to 'site' incoming targets and divert them and be precise about his punches etc. Very hi-tech micro circuitry.
He is able to modify the armour and he can remove it.
DIE-CUT vs. G-FORCE...
Issue One In which Die-Cut beats the crap out of our reluctant hero...
Open with Professor Jones is suited up and ready to rock and roll with the Warheads (not Liger and company, for reasons that will become clear) working for MyS-TECH. Go over armour and make it clear that it's a combination of the latest stuff MyS- TECH have got in terms of body protection (see character overview), anti-gravs etc. Maybe even a small test which leads to the Warheads troop leader that it's good but is it enough to cope with whatever he might encounter while he's exposed to the mystery of No-Space and the superstring itself.
Cut to Die-Cut being suitably Die-Cut someplace else before he cuts his way through space-time and out of our reality. We'll see him in action an establish his powers.
Back on Earth, as Jones and Warheads pass through the wormhole Jones remembers how he got into all this... we flashback to his meeting with Rathcoole, offered job, establish some of Jones' background; he accepts and then tells Reed Richards. Richards warns him about MyS-TECH and suggests they might be able to work together...
The present: In the superstring, Jones detects readings of things outside it in No- Space (as a new universe is created as a direct result of the black hole created by the opening of the wormhole). This No-Space is the same stuff in Dan's Dark Guard stories. I've talked to him and we're proposing that the superstrings the Warheads use criss-cross the highly fatal environment of No-Space which is outside of space-time. The fact that Jones refers to it as No-Space won't mean a Dark Guard appearance but it gives a uniformity to our UKiverse...
Anyway, as he realises that something is happening as a result of the wormhole being opened, he suddenly feels the hair go up on the back of his neck, the results of his scans proving inexplicable... then DIE-CUT arrives, cutting through the 'wall' of the superstring on his journey.
Meanwhile, the Warheads team have discovered something pretty dangerous on the other side of the wormhole and they want to get it back to MyS-TECH. No, I haven't decided what it is. They're testing some sort of communications link which enables them to report back to MyS-TECH on the job, maybe bouncing signals through G- Force who's still in the superstring. They wait for the wormhole to open and tell MyS- TECH they're on their way back. Then the thing they've found starts to go weird...
With a "Well, well, what have we here..." and a threatening move, the rip in the 'wall' enables both G-Force and Die-Cut to be sucked into the new universe created (i.e. not into No-Space) as mentioned above. Jones is transformed by this incident and gains his gravitational powers...suitably dramatic blast of energy maybe. Elsewhere, we cut to Reed Richards and learn from his conversation with Sue that he is busily trying to track the signal device he gave to Jones so he (and the Fantastic Four) could trap the Warheads. But it seems to fade in and out of phase - something's either wrong with the signal or Reed's equipment... it looks like Jones is on his own...
In the new universe, Die-Cut confronts G-Force and starts being pretty vicious - watch out for that blade. Perhaps for some reason he can't cut his way out of the place as he'd like, because the universe is still forming. G-Force realises he has somehow gained powers of his own and we see him use some of these, but he doesn't know how to control them -- or how they even operate. Tries to reason as he fights -- Die- Cut isn't interested.... close for the kill...
... And then the Warheads arrive, transformed by the weird device they carry with them, spilling out into this new universe -- seeking the way back to Earth... DIE-CUT vs. G-FORCE... Issue Two (Partly revised) In which G-Force finds he can control gravity but doesn't quite believe it, and almost dies because of it...
Opens with battle between the Cyberdrones aided by the cybernised Warheads, Die- Cut and G-Force. As the fight continues we reveal that the device that the Warheads have brought back with them is an ancient, deadly bomb, created by the Cyberdrones' anceint ancestors millennia past. Instead of invading a planet, the 'drones used to drop one of these bombs on a potential conquest and it would start to slowly change each individual, re-organising their DNA to be like the aliens. A victim becomes part of a gestalt mind with incredible Psi powers, in addition to being physically transformed. It is only with a terrific force of will that they are able to shake this programming.
The Cyberdrones had somehow lost this technology although they had found the location of one of the gestalt bombs -- but could not activate it. (The bomb's activator had long ago been taken by a curio collector and ended up on Hskelos). Recently, the Activator began to signal a distress call and the 'drones rushed to Hskelos to collect it -- but Die-Cut beat them to it, for some reason detecting and being drawn to the signal himself. Realising the activator was working on its own directive program and would return to the gestalt bomb, the 'drones moved to intercept Die-Cut... who by this time had encountered G-Force. At the location of the gestalt bomb, the 'drones instead ran into the Warheads -- defeated and cybernised them and then moved back through the wormhole to get the activator.
Now, with both activator and bomb in their possession, they're planning to take the bomb to Earth as it has directed them to, as the first world to be seeded in a new wave of universal conquest. But when Die-Cut through the superstring, he created a 'diversion' in space-time into this new universe instead. The transformed and ghastly- looking Warheads want Die-Cut (or G-Force) to take them back to Earth.
Meanwhile, on Earth itself, MyS-TECH are wondering where their team has gone when the wormhole opens and closes without their return. Rathcoole is furiuous - he need Jones' knowledge to improve MyS-TECH's use of wormhole to make their travels more directional. He orders his minions to bring in some equipment to force the wormhole open again . This, we should emphasis is a very dangerous operation and the resultant wormhole will be very unstable (as will be borne out by the final pages!)...
In the new universe, G-Force has been separated from Die-Cut and the Warheads and we establish that the place is drawing on him for its life forms (although he might not realise this yet). This is visualised by the hallucinations as his rational mind, Jones dressed in a sober suit, keeps popping up and being cryptic. Between the cryptic Jones and G-Force we gather he has power over gravity and his emotions effect what he can do. He plans to return to Die-Cut and the Warheads to see what he can do.
On Earth, MyS-TECH's equipment is in place. A crack squad of mercenaries prepares to enter the wormhole as soon as it is opened and rescue whatever is left of the Warheads team... they don't know just what has happened to them, of course. Meanwhile, Die-Cut and G-Force resist becoming part of the Cyberdrone gestalt and beaten off their attack , incapacitating the surviving Warheads in the process. Travers still wears the Activator as Die-Cut did earlier. They're about to decide what to do next when the MyS-TECH breach the wormhole. G-Force, armed with Die-Cuts abilities, a vestige of their part bonding in the gestalt, orders Die-Cut to get the Warheads home... he has a desperate plan to stop the Cyberdrones from reaching Earth.
As soon as Die-Cut goes through the unstable wormhole, G-Force uses the fast-fading mathematical and scientific knowledge he gained from Die-Cut to plug the wormhole with a gravity "cap". This is visible on the Earthside of the wormhole and Die-Cut realises that when the wormhole does collapse the resultant energy explosion will sweep through the new universe on the other side like a dose of salts, almost certainly destroying the Cyberdrone army, the gestalt bomb... and G-Force. Before he can even move to attempt a rescue, Rathcoole orders Die-Cuts capture.
On the other side of the wormhole, the Cyberdrones mass. It's going to be close... they're nearly level with G-Force... then the wormhole implodes.
On Earth the gravity cap vanishes... Die-Cut, having made short work of the MyS- TECH guards and Rathcoole vanishing, knows he's too late. He sadly cuts his way out of the place, swearing vengeance one day for the loss of a brave man... a fellow warrior against the Living Death. Rathcoole reappears - just as Travers, activator still in place, re-cybernises along with the other Warheads. They are now the last of the Cyberdrones and if G-Force is still alive, he'll wish he wasn't when they catch up with him... Elsewhere on Earth - Reed looks down at the detection device he used in Issue One, he knows it's working and he knows his old friend has gone through a wormhole. He wants to find him. But the device is silent...
We leave the second issue with GF hanging in no-space in the new universe that slowly starts to re-shape around him, energy spewing from his damaged armour. As he blacks out, he realises that his new power must have somehow protected him... but whether he can do it again is another matter... and will he survive anyway? Who's going to rescue him here... he blacks out....

Panel Two INTERIOR ESTABLISHING SHOT -- The library we saw in #1 of G-FORCE vs. DIE-CUT with ALBION (in costume) turns from a dusty bookshelf, book in hand, looking at the Transwarp Communicator which is also in this room. The room contains an ancient wooden desk surrounded by shelves of scrolls and ancient books. Reference for this room in KOP #13 – but it's in even more disarray. Albion has been reading through several books and scrolls and they litter the floor of the place. The trans-warp communicator was recently transformed by the Time Guardian (for final version, see DIE-CUT vs. G-FORCE #2, Page 21). This communicator, altered by the Time Guardian, is Albion's only link with his old friend Daniel Jones, aka G-FORCE.

Stu, this universe is not No-Space so there should be stars, but they're vey young! Remember those weird backgrounds that used to be in the FANTASTIC FOUR back in the Sixties? That sort of thing, like the Negative Zone or some such. G-Force is also surrounded by imagery of the last issue of the mini-series - 'ghostly' shapes of Die-Cut slicing into Cyberdrones, the terrifying face of the cybernised Warhead troop leader Travers, the Psi-Scout Diana screaming as she dies, cut down by Travers; Rathcoole's mocking , laughing face. Panel Five The ID MONSTER, which should not be seen in any detail, starts to unfold itself from the rock, watched by the Time Guardian. It should be in foreground and shilouette.
N.B. At this stage in the series, we must not see it's 'face' of the Monster, since it has the face of Daniel Jones, a projection from the scientist's mind. This is a shock effect which we want to deliver in #2. Basically, the universe is drawing out the images from his mind as part of the template it's using to shape itself - - images both good and bad. And this thing is very bad... one of Daniel's worst fears/nightmares personified. We will reveal this in #3. As I said, we shouldn't see this thing in any detail yet - - but I envision it as a many tentacled thing, armored, crackling with the same sort of g-force energy emanating from it that G-Force is exuding. Whatever image you come up with it should be pretty big and have a clearly identifiable shape so that even in shilouette The Id Monster is clearly the only thing the reader is about to see.

The changed communicator starts to crackle and buzz as if it's about to blow up, Bits start to fly off it and Albion protects himself with one of his energy shields, a psi-projection as we've seen him use as a weapon before, a colour hold shield, maybe. It's clearly straining to pull in the asteroid.

Page Eleven Panel One In the Green Chapel, G-Force is reaching up to touch the Green Knight, his hand sparking with g-force energy, nervous look on face. Quite a tight shot, angled upwards to the intractable face of the Knight. Throughout this fight the two characters should be moving al the time, no chance to stand off or they'll have opportunity to realise they could be allies. The reader will certainly assume Albion might have told Daniel about Union Jack, so there's a reason why they don't trade names!

Panel Three Another section of the mysterious Green Chapel and another we have never seen before so have fun designing it. This is the base of the tower - it's 'roots' so to speak -- and G-Force is in the thick of it, semi- floating on some of the tendrils as described below.
From here, the 'roots' (please, don't take this word literally -- think of mono-filament wires and fiber optics, not tree rooots) extend to every plane of existence with which the Green Knight is in contact - every parallel Earth, every dimension, every weird place he's ever encountered in his dreaming state.THIS PLACE IS FILLED WITH WHAT LOOK LIKE HIDEOUS MONSTERS AND DISTORTED APPARITIONS OF PAST AND PRESENT PENDRAGONS FROM EVERY WORLD. They are not alive in any sense and cannot be hurt either - - but they are very curious about the living thing that has falen into their midst.

Jones in costume, the policeman remonstrating with him, is on the main screen.
