Elizabeth Browning is bound for the paddocks, as Alex Elliot explained, "She's been bought for a client of mine. These types of fillies are so hard to find, and I think if she had been here in December she would have brought more, as there is a stronger market at that sale for a horse like her. She's a full-sister to a Group 1-winning 2-year-old, and a group winner and a winner at two herself, so she has everything. The mating plan has yet to be decided." There were 301 lots offered on this first day of selling, 31 more than during the equivalent session last year, resulting in 250 horses finding new homes. The aggregate saw a rise to 6,600,900gns, however there was a slight drop in the clearance rate to 83% from last year's 91%. The Weekly Wrap Cont. Welcome Boost For Doncaster... It makes little financial sense for British trainers buying at the lower end of the market to travel to Ireland in search of a cheap yearling, particularly when the pound is so weak against the euro and the extra cost of shipping the horse home has to be taken into account. Equally dubious was the claim that Goffs and ITM don't do enough to encourage overseas participants. Among the top purchasers last week were Michael Donohoe of BBA Ireland, who signed for 39 yearlings on behalf of Chinese owner Zhang Yuesheng; the Italian buyers Razza Latina and Alduino Botti, who took home 15 horses between them; and Bobby O'Ryan, who has extensive contacts in Eastern Europe and bought 19 yearlings. Aidan O=Brien | Racing Post Even without having the chance to extend his tally on Sunday in France, Aidan O'Brien's feat of training a record-breaking 26 Group/Grade 1 winners in a season is truly remarkable and deserves to have been celebrated as it has. That this milestone was achieved in Britain's final Group 1 race of the season, the Racing Post Trophy, will have been a welcome fillip to Doncaster, which is gradually being erased from existence in the British flat calendar, at least from a marketing perspective. The one blip surrounding an otherwise excellent QIPCO British Champions' Day on Oct. 21 was the message sent out on television and social media that this was the end of the flat season. It wasn't. TRACKSIDE DEL MAR: GUNS BLAZING GUN RUNNER FAVORED by Steve Sherack OVER ARROGATE IN CLASSIC DEL MAR, CA - With >TDN Rising Star= Arrogate (Unbridled=s Song) completing his major GI Breeders= Cup Classic preparations with another visually impressive bullet workout at Santa Anita, the spotlight belonged to Gun Runner (Candy Ride {Arg}) before a small crowd on an overcast and cool Monday morning at Del Mar. The aforementioned runaway GI Woodward S. and Whitney S. hero glided quite nicely over the surface, powering through an easy four-furlong spin in :49.40 (7/13) (ThoroStride Video) at daybreak shortly after 7 a.m. After losing his tack in mid-stretch during an eventful gallop Friday, it was smooth sailing this time around for Dirt Mile contender Sharp Azteca (Freud) while jogging the wrong way along the outer rail. Another important consideration during the accounting and legal panel, sponsored by Gainesway Farm, was about the importance of keeping good documentation when becoming a horse owner.
