Lady Eli Retired, to Be Bred to War Front
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 17, 2018 LADY ELI RETIRED, TO BE BREEDERS= CUP EYES FUTURE HOST SITES, POSSIBLE NEW RACE by Perry Lefko BRED TO WAR FRONT The Board of the Breeders' Cup World Championships will meet later this month to talk about tracks that could potentially host the event from 2019-22 and also discuss the possibility of adding another race. Fred Hertrich III, voted in as the Breeders' Cup Chairman last September, told the TDN that six tracks have expressed tentative interest in hosting the event after this year's Breeders' Cup World Championships at Churchill Downs, November 2-3. All six have been sent letters of tentative interest. Hertrich said when the Breeders' Cup Ltd. hears back from the tracks, it will send out contracts outlining all the details, dates and demands to be considered and see how many respond. ARE SUPER TRAINERS GOOD OR BAD for the SPORT? by Chris Mcgrath Bill Finley Has Part II of His Two-Part Series on “Super Trainers” Dominating the Game of Racing
THURSDAY, JUNE 21, 2018 LETTER FROM ASCOT: HEROES AND GOATS ARE SUPER TRAINERS GOOD by Dave Johnson OR BAD FOR THE SPORT? When I heard the Ascot track announcer say, "Tony Curtis is heading to the stalls," it took me a while to put two and two together. "I thought Tony Curtis was dead," the guy next to me in the press box muttered. I was sure he was, too. But then I realized the announcer was talking about #16 in Wednesday's G2 Royal Hunt Cup Handicap. For those of you who always complain about short fields and favorites with ever blinking low odds, consider the fact that 32 were entered for this race today, and 30 ran. They needed three starting gates for the straight-on one-mile test. The favorite was 7-1. And it wasn't Tony Curtis (GB) (Rock of Click above to watch TDN video of trainers discussing the Gibraltar {Ire})--he finished nineteenth at 40-1. Late money Asuper trainer@ phenomenon poured in on #32 Seniority, making him the tepid public choice. Part II of a two-part series, by Bill Finley Cont. p7 Trainer Dan Peitz never had a particularly big stable, but he always seemed to get the most of what he had. He won the IN TDN EUROPE TODAY GI Test S. in 1996 with Capote Belle (Capote), one of six graded CECIL LEGACY STILL SHINING AT ASCOT stakes she won during her career, and he won the GII Fair On a day when Sir Michael Stoute took hold of the trainers’ Grounds Oaks in 2001 with Real Cozzy (Cozzene). -

Winter Makes It a Guineas Double for Ballydoyle
MONDAY, 8 MAY, 2017 WINTER MAKES IT CONTENTMENT WINS TRAGEDY-FILLED CHAMPIONS MILE by Alan Carasso A GUINEAS DOUBLE Contentment (Aus) (Hussonet) rediscovered the form which saw him land the G1 Queen=s Silver Jubilee Cup (1400m) last FOR BALLYDOYLE season, but Sunday=s G1 Champions Mile ended on a tragic note, as heavily favored Rapper Dragon (Aus) (Street Boss) suffered a fractured pelvis with a little less than a half-mile to run and, after being rushed to the on-site veterinary hospital, could not be saved. The expected pacesetter in a race void of any serious speed on paper, Contentment made an easy lead beneath Brett Prebble and walked the dog through the opening 600 metres before Stormy Antarctic (GB) (Stormy Atlantic) rolled up to take command prior to the turn. Rapper Dragon, last after a sluggish break, drove through into about fifth, but was at the tail yet again and under a Joao Moreira drive when he was pulled up abruptly out of the race at the 750m. THE BIG AUSTRALIAN PUNTERʼS 2014 Annual Melbourne Cup Forecast. Cupʼs Contenders in Market Order of Preference as of 2nd October 2014 Check out the 2016 Melbourne Cup Market Order of Preference with Unibet MY TOP 10 CONTENDERS Comments In BOLD THE OFFER Underwood Stakes run was pretty good. Very good Sydney Cup winner showed acceleration. All good wins have been on affected ground which is a bit of a query. Underwood Stakes run was on top of the ground and showed acceleration there. Winning chance. ADMIRE RAKTI Reasonable closing performance in the Japan Cup last year. Think the Handicapper has found him with 58kg. Brings good enough form, and accelerates quite ok, but Iʼm going to risk him at the weights in terms of Winning the Melbourne Cup. BANDE He is a leader and he sticks on well. Long time since weʼve seen a bold front runner lead all the way in the Melbourne Cup, Might and Power did it by an eyelash. Will be having the lead up run in the Caulfiled Cup which is a positive. A winning chance. LUCIA VALENTINA Best form on wet tracks. Iʼm going to risk her on reasonable ground in a race like the Melbourne Cup. SILENT ACHIEVER Has found something with blinkers this horse, Underwood Stakes run this time in was ok. Tranier not thrilled by a mare carrying 56.5kg in the Cup this year, so might be aimed at the Cox Plate then, but wouldnʼt surprise to see her run in the Melbourne Cup. I could go around it in the Melbourne Cup. -
Plants That Are Poisonous to Alpacas
Plants that are Poisonous to Alpacas Please Note: Please consult with your veterinarian to discuss the plants poisonous to alpacas in your area. There could be plants in your area that are also poisonous to alpacas that are not on this list. Acorns: African rue : Agave lechuguilla: Amaryllis : Arrow grass: Autumn crocus : The plant has been mistaken by foragers for ramsons , which it vaguely resembles, but is a deadly poison due to the presence of colchicine , a useful drug with a narrow therapeutic index . The symptoms of colchicine poisoning resemble those of arsenic and there is no antidote. Despite its toxicity, colchicine is an approved treatment for gout and is also used in plant breeding to produce polyploid strains. Azalea : Bear grass: Sand Begonia: Bird of Paradise: Bitter weed, Rubber weed: Black laurel & Mountain laurel : Black locust : (Robinia pseudoacacia) – Black locust is a naturalized species that grows as a tree or shrub in open woods, waste places, and along fence rows throughout Ohio. Leaves are alternate and are pinnately compound, with more than 10 leaflets per leaf. A pair of spines occurs at the base of each leaf. White flowers appear in loose drooping clusters in May or June and later form long flattened brown seedpods. Several toxic compounds are found in black locust sprouts, leaves, bark, flowers, and seed pods, including a glycoside (robitin) and phytotoxins (robin and phasin). Of grazing animals, horses are most susceptible to the effects of black locust. Poisoning and death have been reported for horses consuming bark, leaves, or sprouts. Livestock have also been poisoned by drinking water in which seedpods have soaked.
