A Nasty Bit of Rough Free FREE A NASTY BIT OF ROUGH PDF David Feherty | 256 pages | 25 Feb 2003 | Penguin Books | 9780142002650 | English | New York, NY, United States A Nasty Bit of Rough by David Feherty: | : Books In David Feherty, we've found at last not only a true Renaissance man but also a writer with the guts to address the A Nasty Bit of Rough themes of the 21st century. In A NASTY BIT OF ROUGH, the operatic singer turned golf pro turned witty golf commentator turns into a golf novelist A Nasty Bit of Rough discusses the world's most vital issues -- flatulence; alcohol consumption in vast quantities; male genitalia getting whacked, bitten, lanced, and shot; and more flatulence The overly serious world of golf writing needed a good gut-buster, and Feherty has supplied it. The tradition of Irish literary excellence continues, but with this difference: of the three, only Feherty is funny. Pick this book up. If you A Nasty Bit of Rough laugh out loud at least once in every chapter, I will personally confiscate your splatter guard niblick. If you're one of those people who think golf is a religion, prepare for some seriously funny blasphemy. Perelman would have written had he known anything about golf Feherty's outrageous characters dance off the page. Every golf nut will love this book. Sir Richard Gussett, his riotous imaginary uncle who presides over "Scrought's Wood," the world's most cantankerous golf club. In this first volume of his misadventures, Gussett sets his sights on the most prestigious prize in golf, the petrified middle finger of St. Andrew, patron saint of Scotland. Gussett must motivate his merry band of members through battles with incontinence, single malt Scotch, peculiar handicaps, and a litany of other unmentionable afflictions in order to seize the finger in a "friendly" competition with their ancient rivals, the dreaded and notorious McGregor clan. Feherty's fanatical fan base will rejoice, the driving range addicted will tee off, the USGA will have "no comment," and anyone who loves the game or knows someone who does will be unable to resist Feherty's storytelling and golfing gravitas. At 17, the gifted Feherty Born and raised in Ireland, he now lives in Texas. David Feherty. Shawn Coyne. A Nasty Bit of Rough - David Feherty - Google книги This first novel by broadcaster and Golf Magazine columnist Feherty is a totally silly, completely unbelievable tall tale that succeeds more often than it fails because of the vibrancy of the voice and the straightforwardness of the telling. Scrought's Wood A Nasty Bit of Rough the world's oldest and strangest golf course, so venerable it makes St. Andrew's look like a teenager. The membership has dwindled to nine, and the club, buried deep in Scottish gorse and heather, is virtually unknown to the outside world. Every 50 years, led by its owner and chairman Sir Richard Gusset "Uncle Dickie"its members compete in a golf match against the McGregor clan, a A Nasty Bit of Rough and ready gaggle of Scottish hillbillies, the prize being the petrified middle finger of St. Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland. Scrought's Wood, using very devious tactics, wins "The Digit," as it is known, only to have it stolen back by the McGregors while the old duffers are reveling in their victory. Scrought's Wood's members are gleefully eccentric, plagued by hilarious ailments, defects and unmentionable afflictions. When the outside world insists they allow a woman to join the club, one of the old-timers has a sex change operation. It would be awfully easy to dismiss this novel as trivial and inane, for many of the jokes are painfully set-up groaners, while others miss the mark entirely. Overall, one is often reminded of smirking teenage boys talking about sex. But there is a cheerfulness and a spit-in-the-face-of-authority aura about it A Nasty Bit of Rough makes it the Naked Gun of golf literature. Forecast: Feherty, a former professional golfer, is a popular CBS commentator with a ready-made following; many will recognize Scrought's Wood from its appearances in the pages of Golf Magazine. His author tour engagements should be well attended, and he's a natural for radio and TV interviews. View Full Version of PW. More By and About This Author. Buy this book. Discover what to read next. • On the Eve of 80, Jack Nicklaus' Legacy Becomes Less Defined by His Record and More by His Character
On the eve of 80, Jack Nicklaus' legacy becomes less defined by his record and more by his character. By John Feinstein Peter Alliss, the Hall of Fame broadcaster and former player, almost always used the same three words to describe Jack Nicklaus whenever he found himself on-air while Nicklaus was playing: “The great man.” That sums it up pretty well. Nicklaus turns 80 on Tuesday and there isn’t any doubt that just about everyone who has crossed his path during his remarkable life would agree with Alliss—and then some. “What you need to remember when you talk about him is that he wasn’t just the greatest winner in golf history, he was also the greatest loser,” says David Feherty. “Every time he finished second in a major [19 times], he went out of his way to make sure the winner got to enjoy what he had accomplished. He wasn’t just gracious, he was more than that. He was willing to humble himself—to always say, ‘The best man won.’ That may have been true on that occasion, but it was never true over the long haul. There was never any real reason for Jack Nicklaus to be humble. And yet, he was.” Tom Watson dueled with Nicklaus on three memorable occasions in major championships: the 1977 Masters; the 1977 Open Championship and the 1982 U.S. Open. Watson considers those events his three greatest moments in golf, not just because he won a major title, but because he beat Nicklaus to do so. “If you beat him under those circumstances, you have to come away believing you can play with the very best,” Watson said last week.

SAMPLE STORY FOR CLUB NEWSLETTER HEADER: Same Sport, One Played Dry, One Played Wet The Similarities Between Golf and Fly Fishing QUESTION: What do Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Mark O’Meara, Padraig Harrington, Nick Faldo, Nick Price, Davis Love III, Justin Leonard, and David Feherty all have in common? ANSWER: They are all avid fly fishermen…and they’ve been known to play a bit of golf. A pure coincidence? Maybe. Then again, probably not. Both golf and fly fishing can be pinpointed to 15th century Great Britain. But the sports share much more than a historic and geographic kinship. In both cases, it’s what happens “between the ears” (in the words of the immortal Bobby Jones) that separates success and failure. Both golf and fly fishing are sporting cultures perfectly suited for the type-A personality. Think about it. In an average four-hour round of golf, the time you actually spend swinging a club and putting amounts to about three minutes. The rest of the time you’re gauging distances, checking the wind, selecting clubs, reading greens, and enjoying the scenery. When you’re fly fishing a river, the best day involves minutes, not hours, of actually fighting fish. The rest of the time is spent gauging currents, checking for rises, selecting flies, reading the water…and enjoying the scenery. “For me, the shared appeal of golf and fly fishing is the chance to be outside in a beautiful place,” said Russ Miller, Director of Golf at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado. “The river or lake is your golf course.

  • David Feherty
David Feherty Former professional golfer, NBC Sports Golf Analyst, PGA Announcer and host of Feherty David Feherty was born in the seaside town of Bangor in Northern Ireland. He grew up with aspirations to become an opera singer, until he discovered he had the knack for hitting a golf ball. He jokes about his career change, “I was always interested in music from a very early age. But when I turned pro at age 17, I haven’t sung a note since. Now, I only sing to punish my children.” David enjoyed a successful professional career, with 10 victories worldwide and over $3 million in prize money. He was a regular on the European Tour, with victories including the ICL International, the Italian Open, Scottish Open, South Africa PGA, BMW Open, Cannes Open, and Madrid Open. He captained the winning Irish team in the 1990 Alfred Dunhill Cup and played on the European Ryder Cup Team in 1991, an experience that rejuvenated his fervor for golf. In 1997, David retired from professional golf when offered a position as a golf commentator for CBS Sports. “I always enjoyed talking more than playing, and now I’m being paid for what I like to do most.” In 2015, David joined NBC for analysis on tournament coverage. Thanks to his sharp wit and colorful personality, he has become golf’s favorite announcer. The Golf Channel is currently airing its ninth season of Feherty — its most popular program. No topic was off limits in this original series that shares revealing interviews with well-known personalities from sports and entertainment, including President Clinton, Donald Trump, Samuel L.
