The Feast Day was honored in a traditional celebration including Mañanitas sung before Mass, celebrating Mass bilingually, honoring Mary with flowers, pan dulce, and hot chocolate shared with the buddy classes after Mass. Our Lady of Guadalupe holds a very special place in Texan and Latinx Catholics’ hearts and is celebrated all across the globe. Holy Family will act as responsible stewards of the gifts it has been given and requires fiscal responsibility in all its activities. Holy Family must provide students, our most precious responsibility, an environment where they are protected and safe. Honoring Our Service Men & Women On November 11, the school honored family and friends who are serving or have served in the United States military by holding a special flag-raising ceremony led by Holy Family’s Cub Scout Pack 97. We began the day in prayer and thanksgiving for all veterans. We had several active-duty parents who were able to come in and speak to some of the classes. Students who participate in Cub Scouts, Girls Scouts, and American Heritage Girls were all encouraged to wear their uniforms to show their support for these servicemen and women. Celebrating Connections Between Generations Grandparents pass on strength, information, and guidance to our students in ways that are unique to each family. On November 21, we celebrated that connection between generations by inviting grandparents and friends to attend our school Mass. After Mass, grandparents escorted their students back to class where they engaged in a variety of activities from making crafts to playing games. All were encouraged to stop by the book fair in the gym and enjoy some refreshments and fellowship. Service during Catholic Schools Week Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and First Grade The Faith building students made care bags containing a bottle of water, pair of socks, hand sanitizer, chapstick, granola bar, tissues, and a specially made prayer card. Families were asked to give the bag to someone in need, perhaps a homeless person or donate it to their church. The extra items were given to Mobile Loaves and Fishes. Second Grade Second grade hand-made Valentine’s Day cards for sick children at Dell’s Children’s Hospital. They sent their wishes for good health, prayers, and love with colorful stickers and beautiful sentiments enclosed. These cards will be delivered to the hospital in time to be distributed on Valentine’s Day. Third Grade Our third grade students made bookmarks for the retired priests at the John Paul II Residence. Fourth Grade Fourth grade classes worked on a very special service project. They completed chores at home to earn money for Heifer International, an organization that works to accelerate the path to living incomes to impoverished families worldwide. Over the course of the month of February, they raised an amazing $1,820! Fifth Grade Mrs. Trigg’s students helped out at St. Vincent de Paul cleaning and making packets; Mrs. Houston’s students picked up trash around Holy Family and Savio campus; and Ms. Ruiz’s students worked in the garden at St. Dominic Savio replanting and distributing pumpkins. Sixth Grade Mr. Warfield took sixth grade boys and girls to Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery and Prayer Gardens. They planted 10 trees and catalogued grave markers and cleaned up. They also prayed next to some of the gravesites of people from our community. Mrs. Poulos took a group of sixth graders to the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. The students helped to clean and organize the store. They organized housewares, books, children’s toys, hangers, and clothes. They also helped dust the shelves and sweep the floors. Seventh Grade The seventh-grade girls went to St. Thomas More Mother’s Day Out and helped out in the classrooms. They read to children, made crafts and helped prepare future projects for the students. Eighth Grade The entire eighth grade went to the Our Lady of Guadalupe Convent in Georgetown and helped weed walkways around the property as well as cleaned windows for the Dominican Sisters. Iron Angels Robotics Competes at Regionals On September 7, 2019, the Holy Family Iron Angels Robotics Team along with 27 other schools learned what this year’s BEST Robotics Challenge would be. With a theme of “Off the Grid” the Holy Family Iron Angels Robotics Team had six short weeks to prepare, build and program a robot that could restore power back to the electrical grid after a natural disaster. The Iron Angels were required to safely move debris, lay conduit pipe, reconnect power to houses, install transformers, and attach transmission lines all within a three-minute limit. This year, the Iron Angels implemented the use of infrared sensors for autonomous delivery of equipment. On Saturday, October 19, 2019, the Iron Angels competed in the BEST Robotics Competition at . They were one of three middle school teams to compete alongside the high school teams. The Iron Angels held the first-place rank all through the morning and well into the semi-finals. During the competition, the teams were required to create and perform a dance. The Iron Angels gave an impressive performance in the semi-finals with a score of 1050 missing the chance to compete at the finals by only 20 points! The team spirits were lifted at the award’s ceremony when the team received the BEST Robotics Founders Award for Creative Design. Wax Museum raises funds for Operation Christmas Child In honor of World Missions Month in October, second-grade students selected a famous person from history. Over the course of three weeks, students collected information and wrote a speech taking on their character’s persona. Students dressed up as their characters and presented their speech in front of parents and loved ones at the Living Wax Museum on October 29. Visitors were encouraged to bring change to drop into bags in order to “activate” the character. Students raised $628 - enough money to purchase the supplies to pack 72 boxes for the Samaritan’s Purse project, Operation Christmas Child. Fine Arts

However, on May 15th, families celebrated these annual events in their own way during our Virtual Space Run With the Angels and Field Day! The morning blasted off with the announcement of our RWTA Top Astronauts and raffle winners. Families then took to their neighborhoods and local parks for some outdoor exercise and fun activities. The morning was capped off with a galactic trivia game between the eighth- grade students and the middle school teachers. Congratulations to the eighth-grade students on their win! Despite the circumstances, we were able to raise an amazing $26,175 for last year’s event! This would not have been possible without the wonderful donors, sponsors, and volunteers including our chairs, Stacy Brown and Bridget Clark.
