Several success cases of biological control can be found in the tropics around the world. The classical biological control has been applied with greater emphasis in Australia and Latin America, with many success cases of exotic natural enemies’ introduction for the control of exotic pests. Augmentative biocontrol is used in extensive areas in Latin America, especially in the cultures of sugar cane, coffee, and soybeans. -

Suman BISHOP MUSEUM, HONOLULU, HAWAII Abstract: This paper contains a systematic list of species, and the literature references, of the spiders occurring in the Hawaiian Islands. The species total 149 of which 17 are record ed here for the first time. This paper lists the records and literature of the spiders in the Hawaiian Islands. The islands included are Kure, Midway, Laysan, French Frigate Shoal, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui and Hawaii. The only major work dealing with the spiders in the Hawaiian Is. was published 60 years ago in " Fauna Hawaiiensis " by Simon (1900 & 1904). All of the endemic spiders known today, except Pseudanapis aloha Forster, are described in that work which also in cludes a listing of several introduced species. The spider collection available to Simon re presented only a small part of the entire Hawaiian fauna. In all probability, the endemic species are only partly known. Since the appearance of Simon's work, there have been many new records and lists of introduced spiders. The known Hawaiian spider fauna now totals 149 species and 4 subspecies belonging to 21 families and 66 genera. Of this total, 82 species (5596) are believed to be endemic and belong to 10 families and 27 genera including 7 endemic genera. The introduced spe cies total 65 (44^). Two unidentified species placed in indigenous genera comprise the remaining \%. Seventeen species are recorded here for the first time. In the catalog section of this paper, families, genera and species are listed alphabetical ly for convenience. -

Imada Hawaii Biological Survey Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum Honolulu, Hawai‘i 96817, USA Final Report prepared for the U.S. Navy Contribution No. 2021-003 to the Hawaii Biological Survey EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Bishop Museum was contracted by the U.S. Navy to conduct surveys of terrestrial arthropods in Hālona Valley, Naval Magazine Lualualei Annex, in order to assess the status of populations of three groups of insects, including species at risk in those groups: picture-winged Drosophila (Diptera; flies), Hylaeus spp. (Hymenoptera; bees), and Rhyncogonus welchii (Coleoptera; weevils). The first complete survey of Lualualei for terrestrial arthropods was made by Bishop Museum in 1997. Since then, the Bishop Museum has conducted surveys in Hālona Valley in 2015, 2016–2017, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. The current survey was conducted from August 2020 through November 2020, comprising a total of 12 trips; using yellow water pan traps, pitfall traps, hand collecting, aerial net collecting, observations, vegetation beating, and a Malaise trap. The area chosen for study was a Sapindus oahuensis grove on a southeastern slope of mid-Hālona Valley. The area had potential for all three groups of arthropods to be present, especially the Rhyncogonus weevil, which has previously been found in association with Sapindus trees. Trapped and collected insects were taken back to the Bishop Museum for sorting, identification, data entry, and storage and preservation. The results of the surveys proved negative for any of the target groups. -

Heraty Head of Department, David Ragsdale December 2014 Major Subject: Entomology Copyright 2014 Anamaria Dal Molin ABSTRACT This work focuses on the taxonomy and systematics of parasitic wasps of the family Signiphoridae (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea), a relatively small family of chalcidoid wasps, with 79 described valid species in 4 genera: Signiphora Ashmead, Clytina Erdös, Chartocerus Motschulsky and Thysanus Walker. A phylogenetic analysis of the internal relationships in Signiphoridae, a discussion of its supra-specific classification based on DNA sequences of the 18S rDNA, 28S rDNA and COI genes, and taxonomic studies on the genera Clytina, Thysanus and Chartocerus are presented. In the phylogenetic analyses, all genera except Clytina were recovered as monophyletic. The classification into subfamilies was not supported. Out of the four currently recognized species groups in Signiphora, only the Signiphora flavopalliata species group was supported. The taxonomic work was conducted using advanced digital imaging, content management systems, having in sight the online delivery of taxonomic information. The evolution of changes in the taxonomic workflow and dissemination of results are reviewed and discussed in light of current bioinformatics. The species of Thysanus and Clytina are revised and redescribed, including documentation of type material. Four new species of Thysanus and one of Clytina are described. -

Morse, Chairperson Aphytis melinus DeBach is a parasitoid wasp that is used for biological control of California red scale, Aonidiella aurantii (Maskell), in California and other areas of the world. The quality of A. melinus reared in five California insectaries was determined by measuring the sex ratio, size, and percentage of individuals still alive on certain sampling days. All five of the insectaries displayed reduced A. melinus quality and fitness parameters during certain times of the year. -

Received 20 March; 2017; Accepted 24 May, 2017 A survery of Aphelinidae (Hymenoptera: Chalcidoidea) species associated with crop and forest pests in Morocco was conducted during 2012-2014, using Malaise trap and completed by a bibliographical research. Based on examination of all the available data and captured specimens, 34 confirmed species in total included 20 genera divided into four subfamilies of Aphelinidae as listed in Morocco. Two new Aphelinidae species are recorded for the first time for Moroccan fauna of hymenoptera: Encarsia aurantii (Howard 1894) and Pteroptrix dimidiata Westwood, 1833. In addition, an annotated checklist of the Aphelinidae species for the North Africa region is also provided. Key words: New data, Maâmora, cork oak, inventory. INTRODUCTION The Aphelinidae represent a group of very diverse (Hymenoptera, Orthoptera, Hemiptera, Diptera, and Hymenoptera insects with great variability in form and Lepidoptera) and are widely used in biological control in pigmentation (Janssen, 1961; Traboulsi, 1969; Heraty, many countries: Australia (Smith et al., 1997), Europe 2016). -

Rainwater, Rosa, Sherman, Steiner, Suehiro, Thistle, Woolford, and Yoshimoto. Visitors: Mr. Ed Littooy and Mr. P. A. Mourikis. Dr. Pemberton delivered an informative talk on the meetings of the Entomology Section of the Ninth Pacific Science Congress, held in Bangkok during November of 1957. Dr. Gressitt gave an excellent Kodachrome-illustrated account of his recent collecting trip through the New Hebrides, Solomon Islands, New Guinea, British Borneo, and Thailand. Notes and Exhibitions Entomological Projects at the B. P. Bishop Museum: Dr. Gressitt presented the following information: "Dr. Larry W. Quate will join the museum staff in February and will work on the museum's project on 'South Pacific Insects of Public Health Importance'. Also working on this project will be Mr. T. C. Maa of Taiwan who will be on a three-year field fellowship. Mr. Maa will pro ceed shortly to Malaya, Thailand, and British Borneo. Dr. John Smart of Cambridge University has already spent about five months in New Guinea on this project, and will soon leave for Australia.
