Match Report Best Players: An unusual game for the Ashy Colts in that Goodman; Ramsay; Caldwell; Panguir; we actually started favourites against a side DiNatale; Borland; Gatwech-Choul; Kitchen; that is well established in the top echelon and Laband; Schawb; Dyrden; Solomon is usually a power. Again we had 4 players out of the side but with the depth we now have we are able to cover reasonably well Awards: when this situation occurs. We won the toss Coaches: Toby Goodman and went with the slight breeze. The early Most Determined: part of the game was a tug of war and Encouragement: Arron Dryden Hawthorn jumped us to lead well into the first quarter. We eventually tuned into the game and started to exert our authority and with Notable Moments: Alex Bombas - named as a vice captain prior Steve Henderson and Zack Kitchen’s return to the game - a tower at centre half forward to Ashy footy. we moved to a 30 point lead half way through And a first game to Seb Kleynharns. the second quarter.

Match Report: Up against a side who played 3rd div Colts last year and more than half the side top aged, the Green’s would be tested. An entertaining game was played in good spirit with an umpire who just loves the sound of a whistle [and once gave one of my sons 13 free kicks in a game!] EWP had slightly the better of the Greens in the first term despite the good ruck work of Jack Borland and close in work by the tough Josh Ramsay. John G was moved from the bench to the forward pocket to an instant affect. With Matt Solomon on top in the ruck and our on-ballers getting the clearances, John kicked 4 for the second quarter and the Greens led for the only time in the game. Toby Goodman was our most dominant player in both defence and on ball for a solid afternoon’s work. Down at half time, the lead started to blow out by EWP’s more effective use of the ball into their forward line. Matt Caldwell was an attacking backman and Zack Kitchen was at home out on the wing and will be an asset to the Colts this year. Pan, DiNatale and Schawby were all useful without being dominant. Arron Dryden looks to have secured a spot in the backline with a couple of attacking moves to good effect. Sam Laband seems to have learnt how to blend attack with defence saving goals at one end and having shots at the other. Steve Henderson has lost little of his clean touches and will be better next week for the run. In the end we were out-played by a stronger, more committed, cleaner-by –foot side that we may or may not play later in the season. No disgrace in this loss given the opposition and our unfamiliarity with each other as a side. We will get better.
