I JUST DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF - Tommy Hunt (Scepter) Re-issue. Just in case Philips changes their mind about not releasingthe Dusty Springfield record. It’s a top request item at WFUN and WQXI. THE GIRL WITHOUT A TOP - Four Preps (Capitol) Best of the songs on the subject. GIVE ME BACK MY HEART - (Brunswick) His best ballad in years. SAILOR BOY - Chiffons (Laurie) Action for Dick Wilson-WHOO and Glen Powers-WSGN. I DON'T WANT TO KNOW - Shirley & Johnny (Capitol) Good hit sounds. Prefer this to the one on Parrot, which is a cover. WHEN YOU LOVED ME - Brenda Lee (Decca) Soft andslow and better than the last. ME JAPANESE BOY - Bobby Goldsboro (UA) Probably will sneak home slowly. Action in Dallas, Houston and Corpus Christi. INTO SOMETHING GOOD - Earl Jean (CP) Still trying. Now Texas and Alabama. NEW ORLEANS - Bern Elliot (London) $1 request at KILT. It’s been out a long while and this is as strong as it’s made it anywhere. A QUIET PLACE - Garnet Mimms (UA) #6 at a major station, in a major market...and this station avoids a blues sound.... so you know it's big. In spite of the fact that it's been around for many weeks, I feel it has great potential, if it’s played. I WANT YOU TO MEET MY BABY - Eydie Gorme (Columbia) This is a turntable record. So was "White On White". But it got lucky. Maybe, but play can't hurt you on it, unless you stay with it too long. FROM A WINDOW - Billy J Kramer (Parlophone) Initial response, very strong at WQXI- Atlanta. Due out shortly on Imperial. HUGO - Linda Hall (Columbia) #1 this week in Birmingham. Off and running. A SUMMER SONG - Chad Stuart & Jeremy Clyde (WA) Should do much better than their last, unless someone comes along with another cover. Smooth side] THE FACE OF A CLOWN - Skeeter Davis (RCA) If, I said if, this is going to amount to any thing, then this will be the side. So says Bob White-KILT. And I fully agree. SA BA HOOLA - Lonnie Mack (Fraternity) A chart instrumental. Don't cheat by using it as a pad. 2-75 - Willie Mitchell (Hi) Still selling. Was #1 at several spots in Alabama. NEW 64 HELLO MUDHJH - Allen Sherman (WB) Worth a few spins. Nothing big. MY PILLOW STAYS WET - James Duncan (King) Solid smash in Macon and Augusta. LAST KISS - J Frank Wilson (josie) Alabama and Texas keep telling you. DIAMOND BACK - Cecil Moore (Sarg) Was at KELT. Ed Ripley-WMBR feels it's headed for big things. YOU'RE NO GOOD - Swinging Blue Jeans (imperial) Glen Powers-WSGN says "Wow." <' Monday, July 27, 1964 -4- Number Sixty Six TELL ME MY LOVE - Loretta King (Columbia) I don't mean this to be sarcastic, but if it were on an independent label, it more than likely would be getting a good bit of attention. This type of thing too often gets lost on a major label. So listen to it, and see if you can hear some hit sounds. I do. SAY YOU - Ronnie Dove (Diamond) Big seller and request getter in Washington. Also a smash for Dick Reus-WDXY. NO TIME TO LOSE - Carla Thomas (Atlantic) Atlanta, Macon, Chattanooga and Augusta. A LITTLE BIT OF SYMPATHY - Marvelettes (Tamla) Tip to our R & B readers. This side. No proof, just my opinion. RINGO’S THEME - George Martin (UA) Well done and should be played everywhere. THANK YOU BABY - Shirelles (Scepter) Still trying. But will not go down in history as being one of their greatest hits. I STAND ACCUSED - Jerry Butler (VJ) Still big in the same places. It hasn't spread and doesn't look as if it’s going to do so. ALBUM PROGRAMMING Our sole purpose in calling your attention to any album is that it contains either one or more sides that offer the potential to become strong singles. STEVIE AT THE BEACH - Stevie Wonder (Tamla) "Happy Street" may be released as his next single. Requests from his performance of the number in the film "Muscle Beach Party." His instrumental work on "Ebb Tide" may be of note. KEEP ON PUSHING - Impressions (ABC) Their best album to date, for any label. "I Thank Heaven" is the one to keep your eye on. "Dedicate My Song To You" is also boss. HI HEEL SNEAKERS-LONG TALL SHORTY - Tommy Tucker (Checker) He comes off with a different sound on "I Can’t Believe It." Listen to it. I DON'T WANT TO BE HURT ANYMORE - Nat King Cole (Capitol) In my opinion, his current 1 single is one you can forget about. But, you could find a big winner in playing "I’m Alone Because I Love You." RAG DOLL - Four Seasons (Philips) Side 1, Band 1 is already a top phone item at WAPX- Montgomery. Unofficially, it’s their next single. ("Save It For Me") "The Setting Sun" is also well handled. SOMETHING NEW - Beatles (Capitol) They're all good and should be exposed around the clock. THE VERY THOUGHT OF YOU - Rick Nelson (Decca) His new single is due this week. "I Don't Wanna Love You" comes off best on this one. AIN'T NOTHING YOU CAN DO - Bobby Bland (Duke) Safe bet that when his current single cools, his next will come from this album. "Blind Man" is logging requests at some R & B stations. I still prefer "Today" for more of a pop sound. ROGER AND OUT - Roger Miller (Smash) If lightening can strike again for him, it could be on one of the cuts in this album. No reports of any action on any, at this writing. "Chug-A-Lug" gets a passing grade. NEWS AND NOTES Several correspondents have phoned or written that they are either in need of a job, are looking, or their station is in need of a man. Is it helpful to you to include such in formation in the SMS? If so, I ’m only too happy to pass the word along. Let me know. In the meantime, if you axe looking, or are in need of someone, you can call station to station at 636-1951 almost any afternoon and I'll try to be of help. Maybe I ’m a little old fashioned, but this way it's confidential and the world doesn't have to know you and the boss didn't see eye to eye, or you're ambitions are getting the best of you. WDAK- Columbus is looking for 2 jocks, one with a first phone. Call Beraie Barker. Hamp Swain- WIBB-Macon off with the family for a New York vacation.
