Jane Douglas, 1816 – daughter of Rev. William Douglas and Mary Atkin P a g e | 1 Jane Douglas, daughter of Rev. William Douglas & Mary Douglas (née Atkin) By Jennifer Douglas Jane Douglas was born in 1816 in Ireland. She had two sons and six daughters with Robert Nesbitt between 1841 and 1866. She died on September 3, 1896, in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland aged 80 years. She and Robert Nesbitt were married 6 December 1839 in Lowtherstown (Irvinestown), Fermanagh, Ireland. Picture of Jane Douglas in the care of John Douglas. Picture of Robert Nesbitt in the case of John Douglas Robert Nesbitt was a School Inspector, and was born abt 1812 in Ireland and died 29 June 1877 in Belfast, Antrim, N Ireland. He and his family were members of the Methodist Church. We believe, but must still find a baptism entry to prove this, that he was the son of Rev. John Nesbitt as Wesleyan Methodist Minister. Jane Douglas, 1816 – daughter of Rev. William Douglas and Mary Atkin P a g e | 2 Rev. John Nesbitt was born abt. 1776 in Donaghmore, Donegal, Ireland and was married to Margaret (last name unknown). We know that they had a son named Rev. Thomas Nesbitt (Methodist Minister) who was born abt. 1809 and died 13 June 1832 in Enniskillen, Fermanagh, Ireland. They also had a son William Nesbitt who was born abt. 1824 in Enniskillen, Fermanagh and died 26 November 1881. William was a well-known professor of Latin at Queens College, Ireland. From what little we know, we see that Robert will have been born between Thomas and William, so John and Margaret being his parents is possible.

  • Jones and Mary Bell
Family of Robert Jones and Mary Bell compiled by John A. Brebner for the Friends of Sandbanks 26th October, 2020 Generation One 1. Robert Jones #75254, b. c. 1780 in County Armagh, Ireland,1,2 occupation Farmer in Hillier Township, d. 30 August 1870 in Hillier Township, Prince Edward County, Ontario,1,2 buried in Christ Church Cemetery, Hillier Township, Prince Edward County, Ontario.2 . The Jones Family Pioneer Life on the Bay of Quinte, 1904; (pages 447 - 452) "Born in the County of Armagh, Ireland, in 1780, of Welsh-Irish parentage, Robert Jones, the pioneer of the Jones family in Prince Edward County, belonged to a class of farmers in Ireland, though heavily handicapped as lease- holders and often rack-rented, have always given a good account of themselves. To Robert was given as good an education as his prospects demanded and the times permitted; and he also received a thoroughly good agricultural training on the family homestead, until he was of age to begin farming on his own account. This he did, at the same time marrying Mary Bell, the daughter of a neighbouring farmer, and of the same age as himself. The farm he chose was cultivated by him for twenty years, during which time all his sons and daughters, to the number of eleven, were born. "His determination to emigrate was not prompted by failure to succeed in farming in Ireland, but rather to the need he felt of securing a much larger holding for himself and his sons, and one that he should hold on better terms.

It was probably taken in the last few years. The lodge itself is located across the road from a small cemetery that is marked by a cross on the 1876 map of Truxton below. The road running north and south, passing by the front of the lodge and extending left and right through the center of the picture, is the North Road. Following this road, also known as Route 91, to the right leads into the village of Truxton about 2 miles south of this location. The significance of this location is that the McGraws and many of their friends and relatives lived in this immediate area. Michael McGraw’s farm on the North Road was located one mile south and across the road from his farm was the John Casey farm. The region out in the flat area over the silo to the left was where John McGraw, Michael’s brother, was living in 1883. His neighbor moving south was Patrick Comerford, brother of his wife Ellen Comerford McGraw.

  • Descendants of William Woodburn (B
Descendants of William Woodburn (b. 1730, Ballintemple, parish of Errigal, Co. Londonderry, N. Ireland) In this record, persons are numbered consecutively. If they married and are known to have children, there is a plus sign (+) in front of their name, which indicates that additional information about them can be found in the next generation. I am solely responsible for all errors in this record. Corrections and additions are appreciated. Stephen W. Johnson 222 Parkman Ave. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15213 [email protected] September 12, 2013 Descendants of William WOODBURN 12 September 2013 First Generation 1. WOODBURN was born (date unknown). The name Woodburn is apparently of Scottish origin. It may come from the Scottish term for a small stream--"burn"; hence, wooded burn or tree-lined stream. Woodburn, then, would have been the name given to people living in such an area. The main connection appears to be with the Ayrshire and Dumfries areas of Scotland. There, a George Woodburn was shot for being a Covenanter (Scottish Presbyterians in the 17th cen. who subscribed to various conservative covenants) in 1685. It was not unusual, however, for people from Scotland, in times of religious persecution, to flee to Ireland and England. Thus, for example, there are a number of Woodburns in Pennington Hall, Ulverston, Cumbria Co., England. There, a Robert Woodburne, in 1654, served as the attorney for George Fox, founder of ther Quakers, in acquiring land for the first Quaker cemetery. In Ireland, Carrickfergus Co. in Northern Ireland has an area and a police station bearing the Woodburn name. Despite these connections to England and Ireland, the original Scottish connection seems indisputable.
