1 | P a g e "The History of NBC New York Television Studios, 1935-1956" Volume 2 of 2 Revised By Bobby Ellerbee And Eyes Of A Generation.com Preface and Acknowledgement This is the first known chronological listing that details the conversions of NBC’s Radio City studios at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City. Also included in this exclusive presentation by and for Eyes Of A Generation are the outside performance theaters and their conversion dates to NBC Television theaters. This compilation gives us the clearest and most concise guide yet to the production and technical operations of television’s early days and the network that pioneered so much of the new medium. As you will see, many shows were done as “remotes” in NBC radio studios with in-house mobile camera units, and predate the official conversion date which signifies the studio now has its own control room and stage lighting. Eyes Of A Generation would like to offer a huge thanks to the many past and present NBC people that helped, but most especially to Frank Merklein (NBC 1947-1961) Joel Spector (NBC 1965-2001), Dennis Degan (NBC 2003 to present), historian David Schwartz (GSN) and Gady Reinhold (CBS 1966 to present), for their first hand knowledge, photos and help. This presentation is presented as a public service by the world’s ultimate destination for television history…Eyes Of A Generation.com, on the web and on Facebook. –Bobby Ellerbee http://www.eyesofageneration.com/ https://www.facebook.com/pages/Eyes-Of-A-Generationcom/189359747768249 2 | P a g e "The History of NBC New York Television Studios, 1935-1956" Contents Please Note: Converted should be understood as the debut date of the facility as an exclusive TV studio, now equipped with its own control room.

After 40 years of paving the journalists of color, Chatman recently announced his retirement. Joined by friends and colleagues, Chatman was acknowledged one-by-one by members of the board, each who shared personal experiences with the respected newsman. Outside of his work as an award-winning television journalist, Chatman has volunteered as master of ceremonies for a variety of community events, including the County’s annual ‘Volunteer of the Year Awards’ luncheon. “As we approach the birthday observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, we celebrate the life of a noble and influential leader. We should also recognize the accomplishments of Furnell Chatman, a trailblazer who broke racial barriers in television news,” Supervisor Ridley-Thomas said. “Furnell defeated the odds when the odds were against him, all the while remaining dedicated to the quality and accurate journalism.” -MORE- -2-2-2-2- Chatman spent 35 years at Channel 4 in Los Angeles, an era when network media notables such as Tom Snyder and Tom Brokaw were local anchors, Ross Porter and Bryant Gumbel covered sports, and reporters like John Marshall helped make the station a major news force in L.A. As a weekend co-anchor on Channel 4 News, Chatman's news coverage was rated as number one.

An Analysis of the Agenda-Setting Potential of The Daily Show Author: Sean Patrick Peick Persistent link: http://hdl.handle.net/2345/1960 This work is posted on eScholarship@BC, Boston College University Libraries. Boston College Electronic Thesis or Dissertation, 2011 Copyright is held by the author, with all rights reserved, unless otherwise noted. NEWS YOU CAN TRUST? AN ANALYSIS OF THE AGENDA-SETTING POTENTIAL OF THE DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART By Sean Peick A Senior Honors Thesis Submitted to the Department of Communication of Boston College May 2011 i Acknowledgments First and foremost, I would like to thank my family for everything they have done that has helped lead me to the completion of a project that, growing up, I never dreamed I would be able to attempt. Their constant support – as well as a willingness to ensure that I was doing my best to stay on top of things – is something for which I will always be grateful. For these reasons, I dedicate this thesis to them. I would be remiss if I did not also accord a good amount of credit to my advisor, Dr. William Stanwood. From the project’s genesis as a research paper for his honors seminar all the way until the final draft of this thesis, he was always there with suggestions for how I could better achieve my desired results. His continual edits to the writing of this paper were invaluable, and his never-ending assurances that I was on the right path were a bigger help than I’m sure I let on.

NOTHING BUT THE TRUTHINESS: A HISTORY OF TELEVISION NEWS PARODY AND ITS ENTRY INTO THE JOURNALISTIC FIELD by CURT HERSEY Under the Direction of Ted Friedman ABSTRACT The relationship between humor and politics has been a frequently discussed issue for communication researchers in the new millennium. The rise and success of shows like The Daily Show and The Colbert Report force a reevaluation of the relationship between journalism and politics. Through archival research of scripts, programs, and surrounding discourses this dissertation looks to the past and historicizes news parody as a distinct genre on American television. Since the 1960s several programs on network and cable parodied mainstream newscasts and newsmakers. More recent eXamples of this genre circulate within the same discursive field as traditional television news, thereby functioning both as news in their own right and as a corrective to traditional journalism grounded in practices of objectivity.
