5 broomstick sts x 5 rows = 5 in (12.75 cm) using sizing H (5.0 mm) hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

If using a lightweight fabric, iron fusible interfacing to the WS of the fabric to add support, making it ½ in (1 cm) less on each side. Press and sew the top and bottom seams. Fold the fabric in half with RS tog and sew the side seams. Trim the extra fabric if necessary. Turn RS out and insert the fabric into the clutch. Tack the lining in at the bottom and sides of the purse. Sew the top of the lining to the clutch using an invisible seam.
